Updating an earlier story, Len Pasquarelli reports Buffalo Bills LB Brandon Spoon (torn right biceps tendon) is likely lost for the entire 2002 season. As noted earlier, Spoon is scheduled for surgery early next week. Buffalo coach Gregg Williams and GM Tom Donahoe acknowledged Spoon's season probably is over. "We'd like him because he could back up at all the positions," Donahoe said. "You just hope one of the other young guys steps up now."

The three players most seriously injured against Indianapolis last Sunday, LB Brandon Spoon, OT John Fina and OL Jonas Jennings all practiced Wednesday, and coach Gregg Williams is hopeful they can play on Sunday. QB Rob Johnson practiced on Wednesday, and when he was asked if he would be in the lineup Sunday, he replied, "I will play."

The Democrat and Chronicle reports Buffalo Bills DEs Phil Hansen and Leif Larsen, both with dislocated elbows, are likely to sit out Sunday's game with the Jets. Also likely to sit are WR Jeremy McDaniel who was fitted for a cast to immobilize his high ankle sprain, and DB Tony Driver, who has a dislocated shoulder. Coach Gregg Williams said he thinks OT Fina will be able to return to action this week, and that fellow starting OT Jonas Jennings (hip) and rookie LB Brandon Spoon (elbow) may return to practice and could play on Sunday.

Cowart's backup, rookie Brandon Spoon, will miss at least a week after dislocating his left elbow. Spoon could miss two to three weeks. QB Rob Johnson strained a left hip muscle in the second quarter, but remained in the game. OL Jonas Jennings got a hip flexor in the second half.

He'll receive a three-year, $1.195 million deal that includes a $299,000 signing bonus. His base salaries will be $209,000 (2001), $298,000 (2002) and $389,000 (2003).

Leo Roth of the Democrat and Chronicle reports for the USA Today Buffalo Bills rookie MLB Brandon Spoon is drawing comparisons to former Bills LB Chris Spielman. "(Spoon), he has that short haircut, he's built like him, and he's so intense when you talk to him. There's not much kidding that goes on," said Bills scout Buddy Nix. Right now Spoon is looking to make the Bills roster in any way, as a special teams performer or as a backup to John Holecek in the middle of Buffalo's new 4-3 scheme.
