Penske Championship Racing will use driver Sam Hornish Jr. to compete in the Sprint Cup races at Kansas Speedway next week and Talladega next month. Hornish is running in a full-time Nationwide Series schedule this year. He'll have to qualify on speed in both Cup races.

Roush Fenway Racing officially released driver David Ragan Monday, Dec. 5, and he is now looking to replace driver Kurt Busch at Penske Championship Racing. PCR will consider Ragan "and others" for the No. 22 car next season. Michael Waltrip Racing driver David Reutimann and Red Bull Racing Brian Vickers are other drivers that could be considered. Driver Sam Hornish Jr. will not be under consideration.

Penske Championship Racing owner Roger Penske said Sunday, Nov. 13, that driver Sam Hornish Jr. could return to the Sprint Cup Series as early as 2013. "That would be the goal," Penske said. "That kid is a heck of a driver."

Penske Championship Racing driver Sam Hornish Jr. won the Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway Saturday, Nov. 12. The win was Hornish's first NASCAR victory in four years.

Driver Sam Hornish Jr. is returning to the Sprint Cup Series for the first time this year and will drive the Front Row Motorsports' No. 38 Ford at Pocono Raceway this weekend. He will take over for driver Travis Kvapil, who will be participating in the Trucks Series race at Texas.
