The Associated Press reports after the surprising release of SS Lawyer Milloy, the effort to fill the gap intensified on Wednesday, Sept. 3 in the New England Patriots' second practice without him. Patriots Ss Antwan Harris, Chris Akins, Aric Morris and Je'Rod Cherry all could take Milloy's spot, although Patriots head coach Bill Belichick didn't say who would start for the Sunday, Sept. 7 season opener against the Buffalo Bills. ''I think Chris and Antwan will probably get a good number of snaps this week, but Aric will also get some work there,'' Belichick said.

That would allow the Titans to match any offer from another team or receive compensation in return. The Tennessean reports Tennessee Titans S Aric Morris (broken bone in hand) will have to play the next 6-8 weeks with a cast on his right hand. "I can't really grab too much with the hand, and when you hit somebody, it hurts," he said. "There's kind of a shooting pain, and then it goes away after a little bit. Then it's OK until you hit it on somebody again."

The Tennessean reports Tennessee Titans CB Donald Mitchell (knee), TE Shad Meier (hand) and S Blaine Bishop (foot) didn't practice on Tuesday. In fact, they didn't participate in any portion of the practice. CB Samari Rolle (foot), S Aric Morris (ankle) and LB Randall Godfrey (knee) were limited to individual drills during Tuesday's practice, as they didn't take part in team drills. WR Chris Sanders (back) returned to the practice field yesterday for the first time in almost two months. He worked on the scout team and took part in individual drills. He's not expected to play this weekend but said he'd like to play again this year even though he's only at 80 to 85 percent health.

Head coach Jeff Fisher said doctors hope to utilize a split on LB Randall Godfrey's broken thumb. CB Donald Mitchell (concussion) may not practice this week but could still play this weekend. DL John Thornton is suffering through a shoulder injury and the team will have to "back off" him for a couple of weeks. S Blaine Bishop (knee sprain), S Aric Morris (knee sprain) and OT Fred Miller (groin) are listed as probable for this weekend's game.
