Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson will start at wide receiver in place of WR Jerome Simpson.
Sun, 17 Nov 2013 20:02:17 -0800
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson did not start in the Week 12 game against the Seattle Seahawks, even with WR Greg Jennings (Achilles') inactive. Head coach Leslie Frazier used Simpson as the fourth receiver for much of the day, with WR Joe Webb often seeing time ahead of Simpson in three-receiver sets. Simpson was arrested Nov. 9 for drunken driving. "There's no sense in me talking about that now. The decision was made. Simpson was out there on the second play. Circumstances dictated this is what we had to do," Frazier said Sunday, Nov. 17. Simpson made one catch for one yard.

Fri, 15 Nov 2013 23:52:06 -0800
Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has not yet spelled out the plan publicly, but he has hinted this week that WR Cordarrelle Patterson could start Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Seattle Seahawks ahead of WR Jerome Simpson, who was charged with drunken driving. "They drafted me to play, not ride the bench every snap," Patterson said. "If I start, I start. If I don't, I don't. I'm behind a great guy in Jerome Simpson. Me and him compete with each other just to get better."
Wed, 13 Nov 2013 11:20:46 -0800
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson will likely play in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks despite being charged with a third-degree driving while intoxicated. However, head coach Leslie Frazier won't say whether Simpson will start in the game. Simpson could also face further discipline for violating the terms of his probation following a September 2011 arrest for a drug-related offense. WR Cordarrelle Patterson could be involved more if the Vikes choose to limit Simpson's availability.
Fantasy Tip: Simpson is a very risky play this weekend and should be considered a flex option at best. Patterson's stock is rising in deeper leagues as WR depth, especially if Simpson is suspended at some point this season.
Wed, 13 Nov 2013 09:23:11 -0800
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson has been charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated as well as refusing a blood test in connection to his arrest last week. Simpson faces up to 90 days in jail for the DWI charge and up to one year in jail for the refusing a blood test charge.
Tue, 12 Nov 2013 21:09:57 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier was still not ready to say definitely, whether WR Jerome Simpson would be available in Week 11. Simpson was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence. "We'll have further clarification as we learn more from the league as well as what we're going to do internally," Frazier said Tuesday, Nov. 12. "But from my standpoint there isn't a whole lot more I can add regarding his situation as we are continuing to gather more information."
Fantasy Tip: If you normally rely upon Simpson, it is a good idea to make alternate plans. Cordarrelle Patterson would likely see the biggest fantasy impact if Simpson is inactive.

Fri, 01 Nov 2013 18:07:01 -0700
Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave indicated Friday, Nov. 1, that the team has packages in place for when WRs Cordarrelle Patterson and Jerome Simpson are on the field at the same time, and the club might want to expand that package. "We didn't get a lot of plays the other night. We need to stay on the field so we can call more than a couple dozen, excluding the two-minute the other night," Musgrave said. "We want to get into our game plan because we do have some packages that we're excited about...getting both those guys out on the field and letting them do their thing.
Fantasy Tip: Patterson has been seeing a rise in playing time, and he might emerge as a useful WR3 or flex fantasy option sooner rather than later. The only problem has been the black hole that is the Minnesota quarterback situation. Until there is stability there, the fantasy ceiling for Patterson and Simpson is a bit limited.

Wed, 29 May 2013 09:43:58 -0700
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson says his new Tempurpedic mattress has helped stabilize his back and keep him in good posture. Simpson suffered a lower-back ailment, which turned out to be a nerve issue, that squashed his production for two months. "It was more my push-off," he said. "I didn't really have my burst to be able to get away from my defenders when I needed to." Simpson says he's back at 100 percent.
Fantasy Tip: Having Christian Ponder at QB with WR Greg Jennings and TE Kyle Rudolph the main targets, Simpson could either get lost in the shuffle or benefit from frequent single coverage. It depends on whether his health and football acumen can take advantage of the situation, and he hasn't proved that either is consistent. In leagues with deep benches, however, he could be a flyer, but you should be more inclined to make him an inseason pickup.

Wed, 20 Feb 2013 13:53:58 -0800

Sun, 27 Jan 2013 18:10:46 -0800
Impending free-agent WR Jerome Simpson (Vikings) had an injury-filled season, and he did little statistically when healthy. Simpson was also credited with four dropped balls. In addition, he missed a block which led to the season-ending injury to WR Percy Harvin (ankle). Simpson might return on another short-term deal at the right price, as he is not expected to have much value on the open market. However, the Vikings might just decide to move on after the disappointment of 2012.

Fri, 14 Dec 2012 13:06:42 -0800
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson (back) is still being bothered by a disc injury in his back, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. Simpson has been a big disappointment with only 15 catches for 176 yards and no touchdowns in nine games this year. He hasn't had more than three catches in any game. "You can't get around the injury," Frazier said. "It definitely has had an effect on his play. We're doing the best we can, he's doing the best he can and that play he made on the slant in (last Sunday's) game in the fourth quarter, that was a big play for us. We're going to need him to make some plays for us this Sunday. Give us whatever he can." Simpson's speed has been affected, as well as his ability to cut and plant during his routes. He has yet to be told that he'll need offseason surgery, though.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 16:56:07 -0800
Minnesota Vikings WRs Michael Jenkins, Stephen Burton and Devin Aromashodu were targeted a total of five times in the team's Week 13 loss against the Green Bay Packers. WR Jerome Simpson finished with two catches (seven targets) for 25 yards, and WR Jarius Wright had only one catch for 13 yards. "I don't want to make it sound bad, but never in my life have I been a part of something like this," Wright said. "I don't even know how to say it." TE Kyle Rudolph led the aerial assault with six receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, and QB Christian Ponder went 12-for-25 (48 percent completion rate) for 119 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Ponder's longest completion went for only 21 yards, and the Vikings' receivers were not able to gain much separation.

Fri, 09 Nov 2012 15:22:57 -0800
The Minnesota Vikings have become a very one-dimensional team lately, and opponents are choking off WR Percy Harvin and TE Kyle Rudolph. QB Christian Ponder is waiting for routes to open up down the field and it's not happening. Once the Vikings fall behind, they are forced to abandon their running game and their best weapon, RB Adrian Peterson. "Outside of Percy, I don't consider any of those guys really threats. Obviously, I really like Rudolph, but he's not a stretch-you-down-the-field type of guy. I'm not a huge Jerome Simpson fan. I thought as long as we could get them to throw, we'll be all right," said a scout. As a result, Ponder has seemed more hesitant to take chances down the field.

"You don't want to put him in a situation where you feel like he can't protect himself or do the things he needs to do to play at the level that he wants to play at and we want him to play at, for sure."
