And we have not had a chance to get a franchise quarterback since Mac," general manager Floyd Reese said. "Now that doesn't mean we haven't brought in a Billy Volek and a Neil O'Donnell, guys that were really good football players and really good for us. But somebody that you are grooming to take the thing over and lead the franchise for the next 10-12 years, we have not had a lot of opportunities to get that guy.''

Andy Hart, of Patriots.com, reports that the New England Patriots contacted former Tennessee Titans QB Neil O'Donnell about his playing status for the 2004 season. With the loss of backup QB Damon Huard this offseason, the team was in search of a veteran to serve as their second-string quarterback. "The Patriots asked if I would consider doing it one more time, and I kind of laughed and said, 'Call me in December and let's see how you guys are doing, maybe making another run to a Super Bowl ring," O'Donnell told the Nashville City Paper. "But as of now, I'm more or less finished."

Former Tennessee Titans QB Neil O'Donnell was at the team's practice Tuesday, June 15, but this time as a reporter for the CBS affiliate in Nashville, reports Kyle Payne of TitansOnline.com. He will report on the Titans during offseason practices, at training camp and throughout the season. "I wanted to do some work here in town and stay with the Titans since I know the guys so well," O'Donnell said. "Channel 5 came and gave me an opportunity to start here so I am excited. I'm really looking forward to calling it from this side instead of from the huddle."

"It wasn't an easy decision," O'Donnell, who is a New Jersey native, told the New York Daily News. "It really wasn't. It's home. All my high school buddies and everyone who followed my career, they all wanted me to come back home one more time. O'Donnell, who turns 38 in July, and Giants head coach Tom Coughlin spoke by phone Tuesday, April 27, about joining the team. O'Donnell would be expected to provide insurance and be a mentor for Giants rookie QB Eli Manning. "He is intrigued," O'Donnell's agent, Steve Rosner said. "The Giants have made it clear that he is a guy they are targeting."

Tennessee Titans QB Neil O'Donnell plays a large part in preparing the Titans' defense, according to The Tennessean's Paul Kuharsky. Every week, O'Donnell plays the role of opposing quarterback during practice games against the Titans' starting defense. His experience and game-like intensity keep the defense playing at a regular season level. According to the Titans' CB Samari Rolle, O'Donnell deserves 50 percent of the credit for preparing the defense during a given week. The Titans have been one of the better defenses of the last 5 years, including No. 1 in 2000.

Updating previous reports, The Nashville Tennessean reports that according to Tennessee Titans general manager Floyd Reese, the release of LB Randall Godfrey helps the team progress with three unsigned free agents (QB Neil O'Donnell, P Craig Hentrich and C Gennaro DiNapoli). Volek says he doesn't know what the Titans want to do with him. "If Neil's back I'm going to do the same thing I've been doing," Volek said.
