San Francisco 49ers PK Joe Nedney (knee) appears to have suffered a significant setback with his strained right knee injury, reports Eric Branch, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Personnel director Trent Baalke said Friday, Dec. 3, that Nedney will have a medical exam Monday, Dec. 6, and said it "doesn't look good" in discussing Nedney's chances of returning this season. PK Jeff Reed (Steelers) was signed earlier this week to fill in for Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers.

The live telecast of the game captured Nedney scratching the back of his head with his middle finger, with the finger being pointed in the direction of a fan who taunted Nedney after kicking the ball out of bounds on a kickoff.

Nedney, a pending free agent, can't negotiate with the team until Friday, March 3, when the veteran-minimum contract he signed last year expires. The two sides have said they expect to get a multiyear deal done, perhaps as early as Friday, March 3.
