Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (groin) will undergo groin surgery in the next couple of days. The procedure is expected to be extremely minor and won't keep Johnson out long at all. He is expected to be at the team's facilities during offseason activities.

The Buffalo Bills and WR Stevie Johnson are closing in on a new five-year contract that would keep the receiver from being able to hit the free-agent market later this month. The contract, per sources close to the situation, is likely to be completed within the next 24 hours. The two sides spent plenty of time working on the deal Sunday, March 4, with plans to have it taken care of Monday, March 5.

The Buffalo Bills may still use their franchise tag on WR Stevie Johnson, but they are going to wait until the last day the tag can be used (March 5) before they make a decision on what to do with their unrestricted free-agent receiver. Bills general manager Buddy Nix, during an appearance on WGR Sports radio 550 Thursday, March 1, said the team doesn't need to make a decision until March 5 and that's when they will make it.

The Bills are talking with Johnson about a long-term extension, and Nix hopes the two sides can get it done before March 5 to avoid using the tag. "As long as we're talking we've got a chance," Nix said.
