Other candidates for restructured deals include T Fred Miller ($4.654 million), T Brad Hopkins ($4.639 million), and TE Frank Wycheck ($4.081 million). QB Neil O'Donnell ($6.65 million), S Blaine Bishop ($5.848 million) and LB Eddie Robinson ($4 million) may need brand new deals to remain with the team.

Titans | Team Notes

Tue, 27 Feb 2001 13:03:12 -0800

Terry McCormick reports for the Nashville City Paper there is speculation the Titans may release some players with the intent to re-sign them. However, that could turn into a public relations nightmare if they were to do it with veteran OL Bruce Matthews, who has a $5.08 million cap hit this year. That could happen with LB Eddie Robinson. In regards to speculation the team may go after DL Kevin Carter (St. Louis), it doesn't look like that would happen as it's highly unlikely they'd give up draft picks for him.

Titans | Team Notes

Tue, 27 Feb 2001 03:31:20 -0800

The Tennessean reports the Titans may be able to work out a contract extension with LT Brad Hopkins, who has a $7.132 million hit on the salary cap this year. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, met with the team on Friday. The Titans, at the start of the week, were about $12 million over the salary cap. In addition to LB Randall Godfrey, TE Frank Wycheck and RT Fred Miller working out new deals, QB Neil O'Donnell and P Craig Hentrich will as well. The first three mentioned will save the team close to $5M; the latter two could save the team an additional $1M. Releasing WRs Yancey Thigpen and Carl Pickens would save the team around $2.5M. With the team not expected to restructure the deals of any other players, that could put the likes of OL Bruce Matthews ($5.075M), S Blaine Bishop ($4.3M), LB Eddie Robinson ($3.25M) and DT Henry Ford ($3.08M) on the bubble.

Titans | Looking At the Cap

Sun, 25 Feb 2001 01:29:37 -0800

The Tennessean reports Tennessee Titans GM Floyd Reese said the team's salary cap situation may cost them a few players they would rather not lose. They would attempt to re-sign those players later, if they were still available. LB Eddie Robinson and his $3.25 million 2001 cap figure could be on the bubble. For the Titans holding on to their own free agents is the priority. High-priced free agent acquisitions won't be part of the Titans mix, except for maybe a PK.
