Green Bay Packers QB Scott Tolzien and QB Matt Flynn both have boosters among the team's assistant coaches. Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (calf), QB Matt Flynn and QB Scott Tolzien will all be active for the Divisional Round playoff game because of Rodgers' injury.
Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is expected to be the starting quarterback for the game, but the team wants to be prepared in case the injury forces Rodgers out of the game. Rodgers costs $8,900 on FantasyScore and is a risky option since he could be limited by the calf injury.

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 15:28:14 -0700
Green Bay Packers QBs Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn are in a heated battle in training camp to be the backup to QB Aaron Rodgers this year. "I think it's up in the air right now," quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt said. "It's in a competition. That's healthy for everybody." Tolzien outplayed Flynn in the team's first preseason game over the weekend. Flynn has the advantage due to his knowledge of the system, but Tolzien has had a year to learn it and has improved considerably.
Tolzien worked in the offseason to keep his elbow tighter to the left side of his body, according to Van Pelt. Tolzien has followed Rodgers in 11-on-11 drills in practice this week, but Van Pelt said it's unrelated to the quarterbacks' performances in the preseason game.
Fantasy Tip: Tolzien has more upside than Flynn, but the familiarity with the offense likely continues to give Flynn the slight edge. However, neither QB should make much noise in the regular season unless Rodgers suffers another serious injury and is forced to miss time.

"The way he fits in the locker room, especially in the quarterback room. The things he does to get [QB Aaron Rodgers] ready to play on Sundays are little things that are hidden sometimes when you're looking at guys, so I'm excited to hopefully get him back in there," Van Pelt said.

The Green Bay Packers may be interested in re-signing QB Matt Flynn this offseason.
Thu, 19 Dec 2013 11:12:35 -0800
Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn took nearly all the snaps in practice Thursday, Dec. 19, while backup QB Scott Tolzien took a handful of snaps. QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) did not take any snaps in the portion of practice open to the media.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Flynn will once again get the start in the team's Week 16 game based on how practice is playing out for the Packers this week.
Wed, 18 Dec 2013 20:57:47 -0800
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) had no trouble throwing the ball with his usual velocity Wednesday, Dec. 18. He made several sharp throws during the individual drills that were open to the media. "He's got that fresh arm," QB Matt Flynn said. "He's the same old Aaron. He's the best in the league in my opinion."
Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has still not been medically cleared, and the team's position in the playoff race is said not to be a factor. The team is expected to decide later this week whether or not Rodgers will start against the Pittsburgh Steelers, so hang tight.
Wed, 18 Dec 2013 10:57:23 -0800
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) took repetitions with the second team Wednesday, Dec. 18, with QB Matt Flynn taking the first-team reps again.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Flynn will once again get the start in Week 15, as doctors would not clear Rodgers to return.
Wed, 11 Dec 2013 09:09:03 -0800
Medical experts believe Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is unlikely to be cleared to play in Week 15 because he is less than six weeks removed from suffering his broken collarbone. Complete bone formation typically takes eight to 10 weeks, meaning he'd be risking more serious injury if he played before the eight weeks. The Packers' medical staff is among the most conservative in the league in returning players to the field too soon. "We would need different results and different responses to be able to get on the field this week," Rodgers said.
Fantasy Tip: It's looking highly unlikely that Rodgers plays this weekend again, and depending on the outcome of the game, he could very well be shut down for the rest of the regular season. We fully expect Matt Flynn to start against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fri, 06 Dec 2013 10:54:19 -0800
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) has been ruled out for the team's Week 14 game.
Fantasy Tip: Matt Flynn will see his second straight start. It's unwise to rely on Flynn against the Atlanta Falcons. If the Packers lose again this weekend, there is a real possibility that Green Bay shuts Rodgers down for the season.
Thu, 05 Dec 2013 10:36:48 -0800

Thu, 05 Dec 2013 05:44:45 -0800

Wed, 27 Nov 2013 10:36:18 -0800
Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn will start the team's Week 13 game against the Detroit Lions, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
Fantasy Tip: Flynn is an interesting starting option this week, with a nice match up against the Lions. If you are looking for help at quarterback in deeper leagues he is worth a look.
Wed, 27 Nov 2013 00:03:30 -0800
Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz is preparing his game to face either Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers or QB Matt Flynn, or even QB Scott Tolzien although most media reports have Flynn definitely starting the game on Thursday, Nov. 28. "We have game plans ready for all those different things," Schwartz said. "Whatever quarterback they throw out there, we'll be ready. We've looked at all three of them that have potential to be able to play in this game."
Tue, 26 Nov 2013 12:53:41 -0800
Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn took the "starter reps" in practice Tuesday, Nov. 26, but head coach Mike McCarthy has yet to name Flynn the starter in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions. QB Scott Tolzien was pulled in Week 12 in the third quarter against the Minnesota Vikings. "I'm very comfortable," said Flynn, who was the Packers' backup from 2008-2011. "I feel good with the playbook. I feel good with the game plan. I feel ready to go."
Fantasy Tip: Flynn is most comfortable in this offense. The matchup against Detroit isn't a bad one if you need another QB in leagues that start two quarterbacks.
Mon, 25 Nov 2013 12:35:31 -0800
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) likely will not play in the team's Week 13 game. McCarthy said either QB Matt Flynn or QB Scott Tolzien likely will start the game.
Fantasy Tip: It appears likely Rodgers is at least a week away from returning to the field. It is not known if Flynn or Tolzien will start, but only desperate owners should consider starting either one this week.
Sun, 24 Nov 2013 17:00:25 -0800

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 16:53:02 -0800
The Green Bay Packers worked out free-agent QB Matt Flynn (Bills) Monday, Nov. 11, and will sign him.
Fantasy Tip: Apparently Flynn's elbow checked out satisfactorily. It appears Scott Tolzien will still start in Week 11 for the Packers, but Flynn could very well see time as a starter at some point since he already knows the offense. Still, fantasy owners shouldn't expect too much. Remember, this guy was beaten out for the starting gig in Seattle and Oakland, and was cut in Buffalo.
Mon, 11 Nov 2013 13:57:48 -0800
Free-agent QB Matt Flynn (Bills) impressed head coach Mike McCarthy during his workout Monday, Nov. 11. "(Flynn) went through his workout this morning. (He) looks good," McCarthy said. "That's really all I have for you right now. Everything else is a work in progress ... A lot of the information that you need to make decisions is still coming in, so we're still trying to put it all together."
Fantasy Tip: If Flynn signs, he'd serve as the backup to Scott Tolzien until Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) returns. Flynn won't be a viable fantasy option in any leagues.

Fri, 01 Nov 2013 11:32:42 -0700
The Buffalo Bills are holding out hope that QB Thaddeus Lewis (ribs) can play in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and the team plans on having him throw later Friday, Nov. 1, and work out again Saturday, Nov. 2, before making a final determination. "We're trying to hold out to see if Thad will be ready. We feel that if he is, we have the option to play him if he's healthy enough for us to win," head coach Doug Marrone said. "When you're dealing with muscle injuries, they kind of take it all the way up until game time. This one's a pain tolerance situation to see what he can do." QB Jeff Tuel has a better understanding of the team's offense and is favored to start over QB Matt Flynn if Lewis can't play.
Fri, 01 Nov 2013 10:57:02 -0700
Buffalo Bills QB Thaddeus Lewis (ribs) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 1, but is listed as doubtful for Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jeff Tuel or Matt Flynn will start if Lewis doesn't play. Tuel received most of the first-team repetitions in practice this week in Lewis' absence. "It's a point of the soreness of the ribs," head coach Doug Marrone said. "Really just being able to turn and throw. That's the one thing that's holding him back. If he can get by that, then he will be able to play." Lewis worked on footwork ant timing Friday but did not throw any passes.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Tuel will start against KC. Steer clear of this situation if you can.
Thu, 31 Oct 2013 11:42:51 -0700
Buffalo Bills QB Thaddeus Lewis (rib, flu) did not practice again Thursday, Oct. 31, and he remains 50-50 to play in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Doug Marrone said the team hasn't decided if Lewis will be able to start. Both QBs Jeff Tuel and Matt Flynn have taken first-team repetitions in practice this week, but Marrone "feels better" about going with Tuel if he has to.
Fantasy Tip: Even if Lewis suits up, staying away from the Buffalo QB situation this week if probably the safest route to take.
Wed, 30 Oct 2013 23:10:01 -0700
Updating a previous item, Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone said QB Thaddeus Lewis' (ribs) chances of returning to practice this week are 50-50, which would seem to indicate his chances of playing are in serious jeopardy. Marrone said that right now, if Lewis can't play, QB Jeff Tuel would probably be the starter, but only because he's been here longer than QB Matt Flynn. Flynn, however, does have NFL experience, so Marrone could also opt to go that way and disregard Tuel's advantage in regards to knowing the offense.
Fantasy Tip: This QB situation is a mess. If you have backups, it is best to avoid the Bills altogether against Kansas City. If you are counting on Buffalo to help, be advised this decision could go down to the wire.
Wed, 30 Oct 2013 12:24:20 -0700
In addition to Buffalo Bills QB Thaddeus Lewis (rib, flu) dealing with a rib contusion, he's also dealing with a "flu virus." Head coach Doug Marrone said Lewis is 50-50 to play in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. QBs Jeff Tuel and Matt Flynn split first-team repetitions in practice Wednesday, Oct. 30. "Coach Marrone walked into the room and said 'It could be anybody. We don't know,'" Tuel said. "We know as much as you do." Marrone will evaluate Lewis' chances to start later this week, but it appears as though he's leaning toward going with Tuel if Lewis can't play.
Fantasy Tip: Whoever winds up starting against the Chiefs should be avoided for fantasy football lineups unless you're truly desperate in leagues where you start two quarterbacks.
