Atlanta Falcons DE Kroy Biermann was the emergency linebacker the last three games with LB Sean Weatherspoon (illness) out of action. Biermann is playing a traditional defensive end in the 4-3 defense but when the team uses the 3-4 or 3-3-5 alignments, he's more of an outside 'backer. "We ask him to rush the passer," head coach Mike Smith said. "We ask him to cover backs. We ask him to cover tight ends. We ask him to close the middle of the field. You just don't know where he's going to be."

The Atlanta Falcons are close to re-signing impending free-agent DE Kroy Biermann and are expected to reach an agreement in the next 36 hours. The final sticking point is the Falcons would like to sign Biermann to a four-year deal but Biermann is only looking for a three-year deal. The contract is expected to be in the $10 million to $12 million range.

Atlanta Falcons DL John Abraham is fine after sliding off of I-985 on the way to practice Monday, Jan. 10, during a rare southern snow and ice storm, reports Ken Suguira, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. DL Kroy Biermann came to Abraham's aid and he took him to the team's facility unharmed.
