Titans | Sirmon comfortable practicing at middle linebacker; trying to win the job

Fri, 19 May 2006 08:42:54 -0700

Paul Kuharsky, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans LB Peter Sirmon is comfortable practicing at middle linebacker. "One of the first things you've got to do in football is you've got to find your role, and as soon as you find your role, you've got to play to it," Sirmon said. "If they ask you to change that role or do something else, then you've got to adapt again. I think this is getting to be the role that I am probably going to play, and I am looking to play it well." Sirmon is not a lock to start at middle linebacker, but he's adjusting well to the role. Speed is not his forte, and getting faster has been a major point of emphasis for the Titans this offseason. Sirmon and Titans head coach Jeff Fisher both said the reconstructive knee surgery that cost him the entire 2004 season is no longer an issue.

The Nashville City Paper reports Tennessee Titans general manager Floyd Reese said he hoped to meet with LB Peter Sirmon to discuss his future. According to Sirmon, both he and his agent Frank Bauer's phone calls to Titans officials had gone unreturned before the story broke Wednesday, March 15, that Sirmon wanted his release. Sirmon's concerns stem from the fact newly signed LB David Thornton would likely be moved into Sirmon's strongside linebacker spot. There has been speculation that Sirmon could be moved to middle linebacker, but Sirmon says that topic has not been discussed at all with him.
