Patriots | Danny Amendola may stay on PUP list

Sun, 28 Aug 2016 09:52:33 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) has not done much during practice since the start of training camp and could start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would keep him out for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Amendola is activated before the start of the season. He could be a late-round option at this point, but owners may want to avoid him if he is going to miss at least six weeks.

Patriots | Danny Amendola moving well

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 16:12:36 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) appears to be moving well despite remaining on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He did warm up with teammates in practice Monday, Aug. 22, but he was not in full pads.

Fantasy Tip: It's still concerning that Amendola isn't off the PUP list yet. His injury history has been extensive and he should not be viewed as more than a WR5.

Patriots | Four WR spots set in New England

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 20:27:40 -0700

New England Patriots WRs Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell are considered locks as the top four wide receivers. The team is expected to keep one or two more receivers from a list that includes WRs DeAndre Carter, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper, Devin Lucien, Keshawn Martin and Nate Washington. Dobson has reportedly looked good in training camp so far, but the fact he doesn't play special teams might hurt his chances. Martin received a $600K fantasy bonus in January, so he might be the favorite for the No. 5 job.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman and Amendola will be the top fantasy options, while Hogan and Mitchell are worth fliers in leagues with deeper rosters. The others have little to no fantasy appeal, although if injuries open up more prominent roles the No. 5 or 6 receivers could emerge later.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola progress

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 08:39:31 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot) an WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) ran hills Friday, July 29, and appear close to returning to practice.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman is coming off of a broken foot and will be without Tom Brady for the first four games. Those issues are enough to push him down into the high-end WR2 range in fantasy. Amendola has been a bit of a fantasy tease, but he has struggled to stay on the field and remain a consistent fantasy threat. He'll have potential for big games occasionally, but he's best left to the WR5 area.

Patriots | Three notable Pats put on PUP list

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 16:13:35 -0700

New England Patriots WRs Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and Julian Edelman (foot) and RB Dion Lewis (knee) were all placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has had trouble staying on the field throughout his career and is an untrustworthy fantasy football commodity. Leave him to the waiver wire in standard leagues. Keep an eye on Edelman's progress this fall, but if he's ready for Week 1, he should be firmly in WR2 territory with more intrigue in PPR leagues. Despite a strong season for Lewis in 2015 before his injury, his injury makes him extremely risky. Not to mention the fact he's never had more than 50 carries in a season in the NFL. He's running back depth in deeper leagues and could be a flex option in certain weeks in PPR formats.

Patriots | Danny Amendola feeling good

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:08:27 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) said he feels really good after undergoing two minor procedures this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola's health has been an issue his whole career, which makes him untrustworthy in the fantasy realm. He's in low-end WR4 to high-end WR5 territory.

Patriots | Key Patriots absent Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:17:29 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), RB Dion Lewis (knee), WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are infamous for their vague injury reports and resting of players. Obviously they're going to take caution with the players listed above, though. As long as none of these guys suffer any setbacks this offseason, they should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Edelman and Gronk should both be viewed as fantasy starters at their respective positions, with more value in PPR formats. Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR formats if he can stay healthy, while Blount has RB3 potential if he, too, can keep his health. Amendola is the biggest injury risk; he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 to high-end WR5.

Patriots | Danny Amendola recovering

Mon, 16 May 2016 13:54:28 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee, ankle) is recovering from a pair of offseason surgeries that could prevent him from being ready for the start of the 2016 season. Amendola had surgery on a troublesome left knee and another surgery to remove a bone spur in his ankle, according to a source. Both surgeries happened early this offseason. It's still too early to know when Amendola will be fully recovered, but his knee will demand a longer recovery schedule than his ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has had a propensity for injuries during his career. He's only played two full seasons in his seven-year career, and hasn't scored more than three touchdowns in any season either. Don't think of him as more than a low-end WR4, with extra value in PPR formats.

Patriots | Danny Amendola takes big pay cut

Tue, 10 May 2016 07:59:19 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola can earn $1.6 million in 2016, which is a pay cut of $4.4 million from his last contract. He's set to earn $6.5 million in 2017, but none of it is guaranteed. That means they'll have a decision to make on him again next offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola is useful in PPR leagues because he catches a decent volume of passes. However, most of them are short routes that he has been unable to break very often. He has never racked up more than 689 yards and three touchdowns in his career. He's a decent WR4 that could have an occasional breakout game.

Patriots | Nate Washington could be cut

Mon, 09 May 2016 11:21:54 -0700

New England Patriots WR Nate Washington is not a lock for the final roster, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. Reiss indicated that only WRs Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell are locks for the 53-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: It's interesting that a veteran like Washington wouldn't be a guarantee in the Patriots' relatively shallow receiver corps, especially considering Amendola's injury history. Washington should not be viewed as more than a WR5.
