Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (concussion) remains in the concussion protocol Monday, Sept. 21, and head coach Mike Pettine said the team will know in a day or two whether McCown can practice Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Fantasy Tip: Even after Johnny Manziel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) led the team to victory in Week 2, it's unknown if the Browns would go back to McCown ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in Week 3 if he's healthy. Manziel has more upside for fantasy owners but remains inconsistent. Either way, the QB situation in Cleveland remains one to avoid on FantasyScore.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel has turned off head coach Mike Pettine, while general manager Ray Farmer, owner Jimmy Haslam and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo believe Manziel can be salvaged, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Pettine has installed Josh McCown as the starter entering training camp, and Manziel will have to earn the spot back. McCown obviously isn't the answer at 35, so the potential for Manziel is still there. At this rate, McCown is a low-end QB2, and Manziel shouldn't be drafted.

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown is expected to enter training camp as the starting quarterback. "I think it's fair to say," head coach Mike Pettine said Monday, April 4, in a radio interview.
Fantasy Tip: McCown could very well start, but he is nothing more than a QB2 in standard fantasy leagues at this point.

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine told NFL Media's Andrea Kremer Wednesday, April 29, drafting QB Marcus Mariota would indicate the Browns are willing to move on from QB Johnny Manziel.

Former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was let go by head coach Mike Pettine because Pettine did not want someone on his staff that did not want to be there. "It was something that we didn't want to drag out,'' said Pettine. "It's just very hard to win in the NFL (even) when everybody's into it and they truly want to be there, and again if you have somebody that just doesn't want to be there, I know it's easy to say, 'Hey he's under contract, hold him to it,' (but now) there's a dark cloud over your coaching offices and I've been a part of that."

The Cleveland Browns have made it known that they want CB Buster Skrine, who is an unrestricted free agent at season's end, back on the roster next season. Defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil has said he wants Skrine to return, and head coach Mike Pettine has said "just everything from Buster from A to Z is a guy that you want on your football team."

Cleveland Browns PK Billy Cundiff will remain as the top kicking choice for the team, but coach Mike Pettine indicated Cundiff would have to step up his game play.
Mon, 08 Dec 2014 04:00:08 -0800
Cleveland Browns PK Billy Cundiff missed a field goal Sunday, Dec. 7, in a 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and that means the Browns might look for another kicker to finish out the season. "It's obviously concerning," said Browns head coach Mike Pettine. "We get field goal attempts, we get a chance to put points on the board against a good team and you've got to be able to convert."
Fantasy Tip: If you have other options, take advantage of them and either stash Cundiff on the bench or release him outright. The Browns have a shot at a postseason spot, and they are not likely to place faith in a kicker that misses key opportunities.
