NASCAR | Several race way into Daytona 500

Drivers Dave Blaney, Robby Gordon, Joe Nemechek and Michael McDowell all raced their way into the Daytona 500 this weekend during the Gatorade Duels Thursday, Feb. 23. Drivers Michael Waltrip, Kenny Wallace, Bill Elliott, Robert Richardson Jr., J.J. Yeley and Mike Wallace failed to qualify for the race.

Roush Fenway Racing | Matt Kenseth's wife expecting child

Roush Fenway Racing driver Matt Kenseth will have backup drivers on hand during the Daytona 500 and races at Phoenix and Las Vegas with his wife expecting a child. Drivers Kenny Wallace and Brian Ickler will serve as backup drivers. Kenseth plans to be behind the wheel during the race days, but may be absent during practices.

Jay Robinson Racing | Wallace penalized

Bob Pockrass, of SceneDaily.com, reports NASCAR penalized Jay Robinson Racing driver Kenny Wallace 100 points and the team 100 owners points after the safety foam in the fuel cell did not meet the minimum specified height after the NASCAR Nationwide Series race last weekend. Crew chief Chris Rice was also fined $10,000 as well as $1,000 for a rear coil spring that exceeded the maximum specified height. Jay Robinson Racing will not appeal. Rice was put on probation for the remainder of the year.

Wallace could also possibly take over for the final six weeks of the 2008 season.

SceneDaily.com reports Jay Robinson Racing officials announced Thursday, April 17, driver Kenny Wallace and the No. 28 NASCAR Nationwide Series car will be sponsored by Phantom EFX and the Reel Deal Series brand of computer games for the race at Mexico City and the Aug. 2 race in Montreal, Canada. Financial terms of the sponsorship were not disclosed.

NASCAR | Nationwide launches safe-driving campaign

SceneDaily.com reports Nationwide Insurance officials announced Wednesday, April 2, that it launched its 2008 Drive While Distracted campaign to go along with its sponsorship of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Nationwide has planned to send NASCAR drivers to high schools across the country to help send out the message that multitasking while driving is dangerous. Students will receive a firsthand look at the impact driving while multitasking has on their abilities while racing in a NASCAR simulator. The first event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, at Southlake Carroll Senior High School in Texas. Kenny Wallace and Brad Coleman are expected to make an appearance.
