Allmendinger has finished 24th and 35th, respectively, in the last two Cup events at Charlotte and Kansas. The decision to keep Allmendinger in the car remains a race-by-race decision, however. Driver Regan Smith, who is filling in for Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. (concussion), could return in two weeks at Texas.

He'll end his streak of 461 consecutive Cup starts, which is the fifth longest active streak.
