Mon, 12 Aug 2013 15:03:43 -0700

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Tony Stewart (leg) was released from the hospital and is resting at home. Stewart is out indefinitely. He dropped to 17th in the Sprint Cup standings after missing last weekend's race at Watkins Glen. Driver Max Papis finished in 15th place in his absence Sunday, Aug. 11.

Stewart-Haas Racing | Tony Stewart has second surgery

Thu, 08 Aug 2013 17:03:42 -0700

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Tony Stewart (leg) had successful surgery to place a rod in his broken right leg Thursday, Aug. 8. He is out indefinitely. Driver Max Papis has been named as the replacement in Stewart's No. 14 car for the Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen Sunday, Aug. 11. The team hasn't announced a replacement for any of the following weeks. Stewart had a surgery Monday, Aug. 5, after his crash to stabilize and clean his Grade 2 injury. He'll remain in the hospital, and there isn't a date for him to be released. Stewart will miss multiple races. Dr. Walt Beaver said usually a broken tibia and fibula requires four to eight weeks of recovery. Blood thinners are likely to be prescribed for Stewart since drivers sit for long periods of time, but he's unlikely to be cleared while on blood thinners because it poses the risk of bleeding to death if he's involved in a serious crash.

Fantasy Tip: It looks as though there's a chance Stewart won't be back at all this year, especially if there won't be anything to race for if he misses the Chase. Keep track of how he recovers, but don't expect to be penciling him in your fantasy lineup anytime soon.
