The Cowboys hoped to find a free-agent upgrade from departed free agent CB Mario Edwards. If they don't, Jones said the Cowboys are comfortable with reserve CBs Peter Hunter, Donald Mitchell and possibly Andrew Davison competing for the starting job on the right side, opposite LCB Terence Newman.

Cowboys CB Peter Hunter (arm) said he expects to play when the season begins next week after being fitted for a cast on his fractured left forearm. Cowboys CB Donald Mitchell (ankle) left the Thursday, Aug. 28 pre-season game with a sprained ankle. He was in a boot after the game and said he hoped to be ready for the Sept. 7 season opener.

Echols, a fourth-round pick last season, saw action in four games before suffering his second stress fracture in his left leg in less than a year. Scouts saw Beckham, out of tiny Wisconsin-Stout, as more of a project. Beckham played in 14 games last season, mostly on special teams.

According to the AP, agent Jordan Woy said Mitchell is very interested in playing close to home. Mitchell has drawn interest from the Minnesota Vikings and is also considering a return to the Tennessee Titans.

In fact, they didn't participate in any portion of the practice. The Titans Radio Network reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said that TE Frank Wycheck (ankle) is less sore and the team will bring him along slowly. CB Donald Mitchell was playing through an ankle sprain Sunday and was evaluated by doctors Monday. Fisher said S Blaine Bishop (foot/hand), TE Erron Kinney (calf), WR Justin McCareins (ankle) and WR Chris Sanders (back) are improving. Bishop will be rested until Wednesday. Fisher said that Kinney felt good Monday, but he doesn’t know how well Kinney will be able to explode off the calf, so the team will be watching him. McCareins wasn’t feeling sore Monday and could be ready to play this weekend or next weekend. Sanders has been cleared to start his activity.
