John Raby, of The Associated Press, reports governor Joe Manchin unveiled the No. 75 Marshall University stock car Thursday, Feb. 28. Brett Rowe, who drives for Herd Racing LLC, will drive the car when it gets entered into the NASCAR Nationwide Series later this year. Dana Tomes and his wife Tonya, Marshall Alumni, proposed the idea to build a Marshall racecar as an additional way for the school to get publicity. The No. 75 is in memory of the coaches, players and supporters killed in the November 1970 plane crash. Eight volunteers worked together on a nightly basis to work on the car and help build it. The car was finished Wednesday, Feb. 27, and cost upwards of $100,000. Sponsors hope to get enough financial support to enter the car as soon as possible in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
