Richard Petty Motorsports driver Michael Annett (sternum) is out indefinitely with a fracture and dislocation of his sternum that he suffered in a scary Nationwide Series crash Saturday, Feb. 23. He will need surgery immediately, and driver Aric Almirola will replace Annett at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend.

Richard Petty Motorsports made official the signings of driver Marcos Ambrose and Aric Almirola to drive for the team next season. It will be Ambrose's third season in the No. 9 and Almirola's second in the No. 43 car.

Richard Petty Motorsports driver Marcos Ambrose is close to signing a new deal with the team. RPM will also announce a new deal with Ford soon. The team could also be talking with driver Aric Almirola about returning to the No. 43 car.

Richard Petty Motorsports has decided to swap the crew chiefs for drivers Aric Almirola and Marcos Ambrose in the Sprint Cup Series after both drivers failed to make the Chase. Mike Ford will move to Ambrose's No. 9 team while crew chief Todd Parrott will work with Almirola for the remainder of the season. Ambrose sits 15th in the standings while Almirola is 22nd going into the final 10 races. Neither driver is under contract for the 2013 season.

Richard Petty Motorsports will remain in the Sprint Cup Series in 2013 despite a loss of manufacturer money and limited sponsorship. Owner Richard Petty is hoping to have a new deal with Ford in the next three weeks. The team has enough sponsorship right now to field two Cup teams in 2013. However, Petty isn't sure drivers Marcos Ambrose (No. 9 car) and Aric Almirola (No. 43) will be around next year.

Richard Petty Motorsports announced that former Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief Mike Ford will join the team as the new crew chief for driver Aric Almirola. Ford will replace Greg Erwin with the No. 43 car starting with the race this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Tony Stewart won the first Gatorade Duel Thursday, Feb. 23, the first qualifying race for the Daytona 500 this weekend. He held off Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Driver Danica Patrick crashed after being hit by driver Aric Almirola. Drivers Michael McDowell and Robby Gordon raced their way into the Daytona 500.

Richard Petty Motorsports announced Wednesday, Jan. 4, that driver Aric Almirola will officially come on board to drive the No. 43 car in the 2012 Sprint Cup Series schedule. He will be replacing driver A.J. Allmendinger. Almirola's crew chief will be Greg Erwin. Sponsorship for the No. 43 car remains to be determined.
