Atlanta Falcons S Kemal Ishmael, the team's seventh-round draft pick, will compete with SS Charles Mitchell and FS Shann Schillinger for snaps behind FS Thomas DeCoud and SS William Moore this year. Ishmael had three interceptions, four pass breakups and one sack at Central Florida.

Atlanta Falcons FS Thomas DeCoud said the team will need to account for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick on each play and indicated the team could use a spy on Kaepernick during the game. He said the team will need to hit Kaepernick if he wants to run the ball during the game. "You definitely want to set the tone and send a message if he's a guy that likes to run the ball: 'We're going to be here.' You want to put some tags on him if he keeps the ball in his hands," DeCoud said. "With a quarterback of this caliber who can tote the rock like he can, you always have to be accounted for -- have somebody account for him in the rush or in the back end. Somebody has to have eyes on him to make sure we keep him in the pocket." DeCoud said the team will need to get Kaepernick on the ground if they blitz him.

Atlanta Falcons FS Thomas DeCoud and SS William Moore have shown tremendous improvement this season, and much of the credit goes to defensive coordinator Mike Nolan's scheme. "It's kind of a combination of the new scheme and the reins being loosened a little bit and also the kind of work we did in the offseason," DeCoud said. "Both William and I paid a lot of time, a lot of attention, to our ball skills and our ability to get the ball when it's in the air and make plays on it."
