Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland discussed a tentative lineup during his press conference Thursday, Jan. 26. He would have OF Austin Jackson leading off, followed by OF Brennan Boesch, 3B Miguel Cabrera, 1B Prince Fielder, OF Delmon Young, C Alex Avila, SS Jhonny Peralta, a combination of OF Andy Dirks, OF Clete Thomas and INF Don Kelly at designated hitter and 2B Ryan Raburn hitting ninth.

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday, March 7, that OF Andy Dirks is a fringe candidate for one of the extra outfield sports, reports Tom Gage, of The Detroit News. "(Dirks) didn't come with the edge that (OF Brennan Boesch) has," Leyland said, "but, yes, he came as a candidate." Boesch, Dirks, OFs Clete Thomas and Casper Wells appear to be four candidates battling for two open spots.

Updating a previous item, Detroit Tigers OF Clete Thomas (knee) is feeling fine after undergoing microfracture surgery, according to The Detroit News' Tom Gage. "He's moving real well. It looks to me like he's full out," trainer Tom Brookens said.

Jason Beck, of MLB.com, reports Detroit Tigers OF Clete Thomas' (shoulder) MRI exam revealed no serious damage to his injured right shoulder. He is expected to be ready in time for the minor league opener. Thomas has been able to swing the bat but hasn't been able to throw. IF Don Kelly won the utility spot over Thomas this year.
