San Diego Padres OF Kyle Blanks (Achilles') ran the bases and took batting practice Friday, Aug. 23, and he will begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend with Class A Lake Elsinore or Triple-A Tucson. "If he has legs underneath him, he's playing well and he feels good physically, there's a chance that when we expand (Sept. 1) we bring him up," manager Bud Black said.

The team wanted him to test his foot running, but the team opted to wait until it returns home Thursday, Aug. 15. "He's feeling better, but we've decided to wait until we get back home," manager Bud Black said Monday, Aug. 12. "The soreness is decreasing."

San Diego Padres OF Kyle Blanks (Achilles') has been sidelined by a sore Achilles' tendon since July 12, and he is not close to returning. "It's bothersome, sore," manager Bud Black said Monday, July 29. "The doctors looked at him today and said it would be a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if that means he'll play in a big-league game in two weeks or if it means he can put on his spikes. Honestly, I don't think he'll be in the lineup in two weeks."
