The Associated Press reports that Texas Rangers SP Vicente Padilla (personal) has left the team to deal with "a family personal matter" in his native Nicaragua, according to manager Ron Washington. He was scheduled to start Monday, June 2, against the Cleveland Indians, but will be replaced by SP Doug Mathis. Padilla is tentatively scheduled to pitch Tuesday, June 3, but if he has not returned by then, SP A.J. Murray will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma to start the game.

Sabathia, allowed seven hits and three walks while fanning one. "The kid pitched his butt off," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. "It was huge to beat C.C., who was dealing." Mathis didn't receive a decision in the contest, but the Rangers went on to win 2-1 in 10 innings.
