The Philadelphia Eagles are unlikely to use the franchise tag right away, according to general manager Howie Roseman. Roseman said he will use the NFL Scouting Combine this week as a way of facilitating contract talks with impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson.

The best thing for the Philadelphia Eagles and impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson would be to trade him after he receives the franchise tag. The Eagles may not want to pay No. 1 receiver money for a player who just finished 47th in the league in catches and 23rd in receiving yards and really didn't help on punt returns the way he used to either. The Eagles would likely receive a lot in return for Jackson. Meanwhile, the best remaining way for Jackson to get the best possible contract is to get it from another team, as the Eagles are not likely to pay what Jackson is looking for.

Updating a previous report, the Philadelphia Eagles will place the franchise tag on impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson, as they will not let him walk without getting something in return, according to NFL sources. They will either franchise Jackson and keep him for the 2012 season, franchise him and then trade him, or they will agree to a contract extension, although that is the most unlikely scenario at this point.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to pursue a big-play wide receiver in free agency, especially since the class will be particularly deep. There might be dozens of receivers on the open market March 13 such as San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson and Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson, whom current general manager Tom Heckert drafted in 2008 when he was with the Eagles. Super Bowl hero WR Mario Manningham of the New York Giants is a native of Warren, Ohio, and he might be a potential target if he isn't re-signed.
