Sun, 05 Jul 2015 12:12:12 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo will bat fifth against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Sunday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is 3-for-8 in his career against De La Rosa and is 7-for-25 with a home run and four RBIs over the past week. FantasyScore owners looking for an inexpensive catcher may want to consider using him today.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo resting Wednesday

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:26:45 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 1. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting and hitting seventh against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brett Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap), who is batting .184 (9-for-49) for the D-backs, is a very weak catching option in tonight's contests. Avoid him.

Diamondbacks | Jarrod Saltalamacchia catching

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 12:26:49 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start behind the plate and bat seventh against the San Diego Padres Sunday, June 21. C Welington Castillo is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is only batting .161 during the month of June and .118 overall this season, so he is not a great option in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo out Saturday

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 13:26:31 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo isn't in the starting lineup Saturday, June 13, against the San Francisco Giants. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia draws the start against RHP Ryan Vogelsong, and he'll hit seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) went 1-for-4 with a run scored in his most recent start. Salty has struck out in four of his last nine plate appearances, and he's not a viable option on FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo out Sunday

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 11:36:59 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Sunday, June 7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will catch and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is receiving a regular day of rest, with the team playing a day game following a night game Saturday, June 6. Saltalamacchia ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting .250 in 20 at-bats since being recalled from the minors and makes a viable low-cost catching option for FantasyScore owners.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo homers Saturday

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 04:45:27 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo hit a home run off New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon on Saturday, June 6, guiding the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) told media afterward that he wasn't getting playing time for the other team he was on, meaning the Seattle Mariners. This suggests a change of scenery and that he's happy to be with a new team. He won't light up the board every game -- in fact, he struck out four times in his debut on Friday, June 5 -- but he's worth the consideration at the low price.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo starting vs. Mets

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 14:59:43 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is batting seventh and starting behind the plate against New York Mets SP Jon Niese Friday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) hasn't been given enough playing time this season to judge his current form, so FantasyScore players should view him as a risky start. At his contest-minimum salary, though, it isn't out of the question to use him as a desperation source of cap relief in contests Friday.

Diamondbacks | Arizona acquires Welington Castillo

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 16:35:22 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired C Welington Castillo and RP Dominic Leone, SS Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabriel Guerrero Wednesday, June 3, in exchange for OF Mark Trumbo and RP Vidal Nuno.

Fantasy Tip: If not immediately, Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) projects to take over as the everyday catcher for Arizona sooner than later, and he has a respectable bat. From 2012 to 2014, Castillo had a .257/.326/.398 slash line over 1035 plate appearances. He'll remain a matchup play, at best, for FantasyScore players, but Castillo is a low-end option in two-catcher, NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. With Trumbo out of the picture, Yasmany Tomas should also receive close to everyday at-bats, and he should be owned in the majority of year-long leagues.
