Diamondbacks | Yasmany Tomas resting Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 10:25:40 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas is out of the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake Saturday, May 21. 2B/OF Rickie Weeks will start in left field and bat fifth. In addition, C Welington Castillo is starting behind the plate and batting sixth, INF/OF Chris Owings will bat seventh and play left field and INF Nick Ahmed will bat eighth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Weeks, Castillo and Owings are productive sources of cap relief for daily fantasy contests but Ahmed should be avoided due to his .188 average in 138 at-bats this year, including a .176 mark versus right-handed pitching.

Diamondbacks | No Welington Castillo against Cards

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:46:02 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. C Chris Herrmann draws the start behind the dish and is batting sixth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo remains Arizona's starter and a fine midrange fantasy catcher, but he hasn't homered since May 3 and is seeing more time off lately in favor of Herrmann. The lefty swinging Herrmann hasn't been too shabby himself with a .277/.324/.569 line and four home runs. He should garner interest in two-catcher and deeper NL-only leagues for his hot hitting of late. You could do much worse in DFS if you're looking to save money at the catching position tonight.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings, Welington Castillo sitting

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:23:27 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Chris Owings and C Welington Castillo are not in the starting lineup Monday, May 16. OF Michael Bourn draws a start in center field and is hitting second, while C Chris Herrmann is behind the plate and batting seventh against New York Yankees SP Chad Green.

Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Bourn could see decent playing time while David Peralta is on the disabled list. Bourn is worth a low-priced flier in NL-only leagues for his speed. However, keep in mind that he stole just 17 bases in 24 attempts in 482 plate appearances in 2015. Keep expectations in check. Herrmann can hit the occasional home run but remains a low-end catching option in DFS action.

Sat, 14 May 2016 16:01:48 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is out Saturday, May 14, with C Chris Herrmann hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann has surged the last seven days with a .333-2-7 line. He makes an excellent streamer at catcher against the struggling Jake Peavy.

Diamondbacks | Two D-Backs resting Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 09:39:29 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and SS Nick Ahmed are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11. 2B Phil Gosselin is hitting sixth, and C Chris Herrmann is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin doesn't have anything that jumps off the page numbers-wise, but the game is in Coors Field. If you're scratching your head for someone to stream at a basement price, maybe he's your answer against Chad Bettis. Speaking of scratching, Herrmann has been clawing at playing time lately and has taken advantage. He's hitting .357 with a couple homers the last week. Add him to the sneaky flyer bin today.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz Sunday, May 8. C Chris Herrmann will start at catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Herrman has four hits and one RBI over his last eight at-bats but is hitting only .216 on the season. Owners likely will be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo, Chris Owings sitting

Wed, 04 May 2016 12:33:23 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and SS/OF Chris Owings are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 4. 3B Brandon Drury is starting in right field and batting fifth, while C Chris Herrmann is catching and hitting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. OF David Peralta moves over to center field.

Fantasy Tip: The matchup is tough for the D-backs, but with Drury so hot (18-for-46, four home runs in last 11 games), it might be worth keeping him in your starting lineups in traditional leagues. Herrmann has six hits in 33 at-bats (.182) and should be avoided everywhere.

Diamondbacks | Arizona resting three players

Sun, 01 May 2016 12:44:02 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura, 3B Jake Lamb and C Welington Castillo are not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies Chad Bettis Sunday, May 1. 2B Phil Gosselin will start at second base and is batting first in the lineup. 3B Brandon Drury will start at third base and is batting second, while C Chris Herrmann will start at catcher and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Drury is hitting .321 with three runs and five RBI over the last seven days and should be an attractive starting option in most leagues. Gosselin is batting .276 in limited playing time and could be an option for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Herrmann should be avoided by all owners.

Diamondbacks | No Welington Castillo vs. St. Louis

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 13:53:25 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. C Chris Herrmann is starting behind the plate and batting sixth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo is picking up where he left off in 2015 after joining the Diamondbacks, as he has six home runs and 12 RBI with a .290/.351/.580 slash line to start the season. Herrmann has a tough matchup against Wacha, and he should be viewed as a low-end start Thursday, especially in daily contests. Plus, Herrmann is just 3-for-25 to start the season.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo swinging hot bat

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:45:22 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo has been hot at the plate over the past seven days. In five games, he's hitting 9-for-22 (.409) with four home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored and he even has a stolen base.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo began to make his case during spring training as one of baseball's most underrated catchers, and that success has evidently poured into the regular season. The former Chicago Cub is solidifying himself as a legitimate starting fantasy catcher, even in standard leagues, and owners should pounce if he's still out there. Plus, it also helps he plays half his games in a hitter-friendly park.
