The Chicago Cubs assigned RPs Esmailin Caridad and Casey Weathers to minor league camp Tuesday, March 13. Weathers was also outrighted off the 40-man roster.

Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella said RP Esmailin Caridad (forearm) could rejoin the team by next weekend if all goes well, according to The Associated Press. He is expected to make several rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa this week. When he is activated, one of the club's younger relievers is expected to be optioned to the minors, meaning RP Carlos Zambrano will remain in the bullpen for now.
