Texans | Arian Foster could return Week 2

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:13:28 -0700

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) has been working out in Houston, and he's expected to return to the field in some facet by Week 2 to Week 4, according to ESPN 97.5 in Houston's Jayson Braddock.

Fantasy Tip: Foster likely falls into the low-end RB1 range, and he could be an excellent value there if you have a legit RB2 to make up for his early season absence.

Texans | More on Arian Foster's surgery

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 14:58:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) may only miss four to six weeks of the regular season, according to sources with knowledge of the situation not authorized to speak publicly. He was slated to miss two to three months of the season for surgery to reattach the groin to the bone, but the Houston Chronicle suggests he underwent a type of sports hernia surgery. "Dr. Meyers performs a Bassini-type hernia repair that he has performed on hundreds of professional athletes who have suffered a sports hernia," said Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, an orthopedic surgeon at Santa Monica Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Group in California who does not treat Foster. "We published an article together in the '90s regarding its effectiveness. Foster should be back to full form in two to three months depending on the details and spectrum of his injury."

Fantasy Tip: If Foster only misses four to six games, he shoots up into the RB2 conversation. Stay tuned for more details.

Texans | Arian Foster may return sooner?

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 07:27:07 -0700

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) may miss only four to six weeks of playing time instead of the two to three months that was originally mentioned as his recovery time, according to sources. Foster may start the season on the short-term Injured Reserve list, which would keep out for at least the first eight weeks of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye out on his recovery to see when Foster will be able to return. Foster could be a late-round option in drafts since he could help owners near the end of the season if he is healthy. Alfred Blue and Chris Polk likely will see more playing time and could be middle-round options depending on their roles.

Texans | Arian Foster will go on IR

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 15:18:51 -0700

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin), who had successful groin surgery Friday, Aug. 7, will be placed on the short-term Reserve/Injured list, meaning he'll be eligible to return in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: The Texans have a bye in Week 9, so at the earliest, Foster would return to play for Houston in Week 10. Don't consider drafting him until the last several rounds of your draft. Alfred Blue should see most of the work as a result, and he's a midround target.

Texans | Arian Foster back in three months?

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 09:48:59 -0700

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) had surgery to fix a groin muscle that was torn off the bone Friday, Aug. 7, according to a source. A timetable on when he might return is unclear, but Houston is hoping Foster's recovery time will be shorter than three months, however. He will miss at least a few regular season games, and it's possible that he is placed on the short-term Reserve/Injured list. The earliest the Texans can put him on IR is Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: It would be a surprise if Foster isn't put on the short-term IR next month, meaning he's expected to miss at least half of the 2015 season. He's been a slow healer, too, so anything beyond three months of recovery wouldn't be a shock. Don't even consider drafting Foster until the last several rounds. Alfred Blue is expected to be the main back and is a midround commodity. The Texans could still add another runner on the free-agent market.

Texans | Arian Foster probably going to IR

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 13:37:57 -0700

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) will likely begin the regular season on the short-term Reserve/Injured list. Foster suffered a groin injury Tuesday, Aug. 4, that will likely require surgery.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that this isn't happening in the midst of the season. The bad news is that Foster will probably still miss at least the first few weeks of the season. Alfred Blue becomes the top priority on the waiver wire for those who drafted Foster. For those who haven't drafted yet, Foster turns into a mid-round pick and should no longer be viewed as a RB1.
