Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to frail for big role?

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 18:54:54 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart led the team with 175 carries and 200 touches last year, but he missed three games and has missed a combined 20 games since 2012.

Fantasy Tip: If Stewart can stay healthy, he could have his most productive season now that DeAngelo Williams is in Pittsburgh. However, his injury history suggests he will miss at least a few games. If you can land him as a RB3, he is worth the risk, but make sure you have an insurance policy.

Panthers | Confident in Cameron Artis-Payne

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 19:07:00 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne can carry the load in the event of an injury to RB Jonathan Stewart, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: The head coach is confident in CAPís ability, but the rookie is behind Jonathan Stewart and nothing is likely to change that outside of an injury. For now the former Auburn tailback is worth a speculative pick in the later rounds on draft day.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited to 15 carries

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 13:54:35 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will ideally be limited to 15 carries a game, according to head coach Ron Rivera. The team will look to draft a running back in the 2015 NFL Draft that will likely take eight to 10 carries per game.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew has a lengthy injury history, and while it still seems like they plan to use him as their RB1, he really has very little upside in this arrangement. Draft him as an RB3, but look to handcuff him to his No. 2 as well.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart not practicing Tuesday

Tue, 06 Jan 2015 10:22:07 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is taking the day off from practice Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has rushed for over 100 yards in three of his last five games. However, against one of the best overall defenses in the league in the Seattle Seahawks, J-Stew makes for a weak play at FantasyScore this weekend.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart heads backfield

Sat, 03 Jan 2015 17:32:05 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart led the team with 24 carries in the wild-card playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Even with DeAngelo Williams back in the mix, Stewart had 20 more carries than any other running back on the team. His role as the lead back appears safe for as long as Carolina remains alive in the playoffs.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart with good game

Sat, 03 Jan 2015 16:52:49 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart had 24 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown in the wild-card playoff game Saturday, Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew will have a tough matchup next week in Seattle. Depending on his salary on FantasyScore, he could be a low-end RB1 option worth using.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to remain lead back

Fri, 02 Jan 2015 11:08:04 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is expected to start and see most of the carries over RB DeAngelo Williams in the team's Wild Card game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Jan. 3. Stewart has the second most rushing yards (486) in the league in the last five games, and Williams was a liability in the passing game with an injured right hand. However, Williams is "ready to roll" this week, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($5,300; 10.6% of cap) will continue to see the lion's share of the workload, but Williams' ($3,000) return has to concern you, at least a little. Arizona's run defense has been vulnerable of late to bruising backs unlike Stewart. Consider Stewart a candidate to disappoint in the first round of the playoffs.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart given day off

Tue, 30 Dec 2014 11:38:56 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart did not practice Tuesday, Dec. 30, as he was given the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart should still be good to go for the wild card matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. He's not the best option on FantasyScore against a top-five Cardinals rush defense.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart the starter in Carolina

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 14:20:25 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will be the team's starting running back in Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons despite RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) being listed as probable for the game. Stewart has ran for 437 yards in the last four games with Williams out, which is more than any other running back in the NFL in that span. "I'm not going to sit here and divulge what my plan is with my players," head coach Ron Rivera said. "I don't want to get up here and tell you exactly what we're going to do with our players. Why do I want to give the opponent any insight into what we're going to do?" There are no guarantees that Williams will play, since there are concerns about his ability to block with his hand injury.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart should be a solid play at FantasyScore against the Falcons, even if Williams is active in the game. The Falcons have routinely been beaten up by opposing rushers all year. Ignore Williams in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Starting RB still not named for Carolina

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 11:38:44 -0800

Carolina Panthers RBs Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams still don't know who will start this week. Head coach Ron Rivera said he's reluctant to name a starter at this point and will cross that bridge when he gets to it.

Fantasy Tip: Logic says that Stewart ($5,555) will maintain his starter status considering his recent success. Whoever does start will have a terrific matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, who have allowed the most fantasy points to running backs this year.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams practicing

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 11:12:34 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) was taking first-team snaps at practice Tuesday, Dec. 23, with RB Jonathan Stewart taking the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($5,555) could very well return this weekend to face the Atlanta Falcons in a winner-take-all contest for the NFC South division. A Williams return would lower the FantasyScore value of Jonathan Stewart ($5,555), who has run well in recent weeks as the main back. Stewart is clearly the better option here, but temper your expectations if Williams returns.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart resting Tuesday

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 11:03:50 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is receiving the day off Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($5,555) has run really well in recent weeks, and he has a juicy matchup against the Atlanta Falcons in the season finale. However, keep tabs on the status of DeAngelo Williams (hand), as his return could cut into the workload of J-Stew.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart enjoying expanded role

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 19:20:52 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hip) has averaged more than seven yards per carry in each of the team's last two games, and his 32 carries between those games are his most over a two-game stretch this year.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is set to start against the Buccaneers in Week 15, and with Derek Anderson starting at quarterback, Stewart will likely be leaned on heavily. He will take up 10.0% of the cap ($5,000) at FantasyScore and should make a strong play.

Panthers | Probable status for Jonathan Stewart

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 14:05:17 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hip) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 12, and is probable for Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: With DeAngelo Williams (hand) doubtful, Stewart ($5,000) should see the lion's share of the carries again this weekend. The Buccaneers have yielded their fair share of fantasy points to running backs this year, making J-Stew a great value play at FantasyScore.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart practices in full

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 12:01:58 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hip) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart looks to be on track to play in Week 15 and probably will receive a majority of the carries. He will be facing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that has had problems with running backs over the past four games. Stewart costs $5,000 on FantasyScore and could be a solid option at running back or flex option.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart on injury report

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 13:46:14 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hip) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart's injury doesn't appear to be very severe, so we expect him to suit up in Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. J-Stew had a big game last week with DeAngelo Williams (hand) out, and that could very well continue against the Bucs' weak defense this week. Consider Stewart ($5,000) a strong play at FantasyScore if Williams remains out.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams will return to mix

Tue, 09 Dec 2014 13:12:22 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) will be in the mix in the backfield when he returns from a broken bone in his right hand, but head coach Ron Rivera would not say if he would start over RB Jonathan Stewart, who has been strong in Williams' absence. "My preference. That's the only reason," Rivera said. "DeAngelo is a part of who we are. We'll see. We'll see how it is. It will be a day-by-day process with him. As the hand gets stronger and heals up, we'll go forward." The offensive line was solid in the Week 14 win over the New Orleans Saints, and they helped Stewart run for 155 yards. QB Cam Newton also ran for 83 yards on the ground, while RB Mike Tolbert had 62 total yards and RB Fozzy Whittaker had 31 total yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will cost $3,200 heading into Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but his iffy status should steer you away from him. Stewart ($5,000) should remain intriguing for at least another week with this juicy matchup against the Bucs.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart breaks big run

Sun, 07 Dec 2014 11:56:04 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on a play in the third quarter of the team's Week 14 game.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is part of a committee at running back for the Panthers, but could receive more carries because of his play this week. Stewart is not a weekly starting option but could be used against certain matchups.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams to see specialist?

Tue, 02 Dec 2014 14:43:34 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) could see a hand specialist this week, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Williams fractured his hand in Week 13 but could still play in Week 14 if the swelling in his hand goes down.

Fantasy Tip: If Williams doesn't play, Jonathan Stewart would once again get the start. Whoever starts will have a nice matchup versus the New Orleans Saints, who allow 22.8 fantasy points per game to running backs. While Stewart hasn't done anything special this year, he is a cheaper FantasyScore option at $4,900.

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 14, and is probable for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart looks like he is good to go in Week 11, and will likely see a lot of work, even with DeAngleo Williams in the picture. Stewart will cost $4,700 in FantasyScore and should be considered for your roster.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited again

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 14:56:03 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Tip: With DeAngelo Williams beat up again, Stewart could be a very fine play at FantasyScore against a soft Atlanta Falcons run defense in Week 11. Stewart costs $4,700 this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited

Wed, 12 Nov 2014 14:57:04 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart had 11 carries for 36 yards and a touchdown and also added four catches for 23 yards in Week 10's loss. The main thing was that he was more effective than DeAngelo Williams again. Stewart ($4,700) isn't a bad flex option against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 14:57:59 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) will start in the team's Week 7 game, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 13:25:43 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: With DeAngelo Williams out this week and Darrin Reaves and Fozzy Whittaker beat up, Williams is a very sneaky play at just $4,000 (8.0% of cap) at FantasyScore. The Green Bay Packers have been very generous against the run in 2014.

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 10:06:17 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is expected to participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart was not able to play in Week 6 because of the injury but could return this week if he is able to practice. The team could ease Stewart back in as part of a committee, but he could be a flex option if he gets most of the carries since he has a good matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Darrin Reaves ($3,600; 7.2% of your cap) was relatively ineffective last week, but he's expected to be the lead guy again today. Chris Ogbonnaya ($3,500; 7%) had eight carries and a touchdown last week and could be a dark horse on FantasyScore today.

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 11:54:32 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is questionable for the team's Week 6 game.

Fantasy Tip: If Stewart is healthy enough to get on the field in Week 6, he is expected to get most of the carries out of the backfield. There is a lot of risk involved here, as he may be limited by the injury. Owners should probably look elsewhere this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart getting closer

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 10:05:52 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is closer to returning than RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle), according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to see if Stewart can get on the practice field before deciding on their lineup. Stewart probably would be the starter in Week 6 if he is active, but he may still be limited. Darrin Reaves and Chris Ogbonnaya received work during the team's Week 5 game and probably would share carries again if Stewart is not able to play.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart doubtful

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 10:22:43 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) made significant progress in practice Friday, Oct. 3, but he's listed as doubtful for Week 5 against the Chicago Bears, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: DeAngelo Williams is already out against the Bears, so it looks like Darrin Reaves will lead Carolina's backfield charge. Reaves will cost you the minimum at FantasyScore ($3,000).

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) likely will not be able to play in Week 5, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera said he is comfortable with RBs Darrin Reaves, Fozzy Whittaker and Chris Ogbonnaya.

Fantasy Tip: Reaves, Whittaker and Ogbonnaya could all receive work in Week 5, but Reaves is expected to receive the start. Reaves costs $3,000 on FantasyScore and could be a cheap flex option that can bring a profit if he gets most of the work. Whittaker also costs $3,000 but may not have a big enough role to be a factor in fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to practice

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 09:55:41 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is in pads Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will participate in practice.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Stewart may be able to play in Week 5 after missing the team's Week 4 game. Owners will need to watch his practice participation to get a better idea on a possible role for him during the game. Owners would have to spend $3,600 on Stewart at FantasyScore, and he could be a flex option if he gets a solid amount of playing time.

Chris Ogbannaya could also figure into the mix, but now there are reports Jonathan Stewart (knee) could return. Stewart ($3,600; 7.2% of your cap) would be a decent bargain bin flex option if he's able to suit up.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) returned to practice Friday, Sept. 26, but is questionable for Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens. It looks like Stewart is a long shot to play this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers backfield is an injured mess, but it looks as though DeAngelo Williams could be returning to face the Ravens. If Williams is back, he should see the majority of touches, and he could be a bargain for his $5,300 (10.6% of cap) FantasyScore price.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart practices

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 08:57:05 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) practiced Friday, Sept. 26, for the first time this week. According to Joe Person, Stewart "didn't look particularly spry." Person said he would "still be surprised" if Stewart plays in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: So would we. It looks like a combo of the underwhelming DeAngelo Williams ($5,300; 10.6% of FantasyScore cap) and Darrin Reaves ($3,700; 7.4%) will face the Baltimore Ravens. Williams is a desperation RB2, and Reaves is a last-ditch flex. Neither has much upside.
