Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to miss Week 4

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 12:29:59 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) will not be able to play in Week 4, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera indicated he is not sure about a possible timetable for Stewart.

Fantasy Tip: Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will both receive playing time at running back while Stewart is sidelined. Neither player posted great stats last week, but they were facing one of the better defenses in the NFL. Whittaker is probably a better option for owners in point-per-reception leagues, while Artis-Payne could be a flex option in some standard leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart sits again

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 12:01:39 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart likely will miss at least one more week because of the injury, so owners can avoid him. Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will continue to share work at running back with Stewart out. Whittaker may have more value since he is more involved in the passing game, but both could be flex options in deeper leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart out of practice

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 09:36:16 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew looks good when he's on the field, but every year it seems like a leg injury takes him out for weeks at a time. Cameron Artis-Payne rushed 12 times for 47 yards last week. Fozzy Whittaker had 22 rushing yards, but he had five grabs for 34 yards as well. Whittaker holds more value as a flex option against the Atlanta Falcons this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart ruled out for Week 3

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 10:54:29 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Ron Rivera said he expects Stewart to miss two to three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to serve as the lead back, but Fozzy Whittaker and Mike Tolbert will be heavily involved as well. Even with the rash of injuries at the running back position across the league last week, none of the aforementioned players should be considered anything more than a RB3 this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart not on the field

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 12:53:39 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is expected to miss at least one week because of the injury, so owners should avoid him in all leagues. Fozzy Whittaker and Cameron Artis-Payne likely will share snaps in Week 3 and can be flex options in most fantasy leagues.

Panthers | CAR to use RB committee

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 07:32:56 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker, RB Cameron Artis-Payne and FB Mike Tolbert will split carries by committee with RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) out, according to offensive coordinator Mike Shula.

Fantasy Tip: Whittaker and Payne could see the lion's share if one of them is hot. Both are flex options in fantasy. Tolbert figures to see short-yardage carries and doesn't have much fantasy luster except in TD-only leagues.

Panthers | Fozzy Whittaker the main back

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 13:41:45 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker was in on 49 offensive snaps in Week 2 in light of RB Jonathan Stewart's (hamstring) early exit. RB Cameron Artis-Payne did not receive any snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Whittaker will be the Panthers' go-to running back assuming Stewart is out for Week 3. Whittaker ran for 100 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards last week. He and the Panthers face stiff competition in the Minnesota Vikings, though. View Whittaker as a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 with added value in PPR leagues if Stewart can't play.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart undergoes MRI

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 19:04:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) was scheduled for an MRI Monday, Sept. 19, to determine the severity of the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: As mentioned earlier, head coach Ron Rivera said he expects J-Stew to be sidelined at least a week or two, so look for Fozzy Whittaker and Mike Tolbert to carry the load in Stewart's absence. Cameron Artis-Payne should also be up after being inactive the first two games. Whittaker is your best bet as a fantasy replacement.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart likely out for Week 3

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 10:23:34 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is expected to miss "at least a week or two" after suffering a hamstring injury in a Week 2 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Given his lengthy injury history and track record for recovery, owners can probably expect Stewart to miss at least two weeks. Fozzy Whittaker totaled 131 yards in relief Sunday, but Rivera was quick to talk up second-year running back Cameron Artis-Payne, who has been inactive the first two weeks. For Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings, expect the Panthers to go with a hot-hand approach with Whittaker getting the first shot to make an impression. In a difficult matchup, he's a low-floor and unexciting flex option.

Panthers | Cameron Artis-Payne could see big role

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 06:10:34 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne has been a healthy scratch due to special teams, but if RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) misses time, Artis-Payne could see a big role on offense, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: CAP is one to target on waivers this week until more is known about J-Stew.

The coach liked the way RBs Mike Tolbert and Fozzy Whittaker filled in.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 10:27:31 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during the team's Week 2 game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Stewart will miss extended time because of the injury. Cameron-Artis Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will see more playing time while Stewart is out and could be flex options depending on their touches.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart will be in uniform

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 09:03:58 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is officially active for the team's Week 2 game.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart should receive plenty of carries against the San Francisco 49ers this week and is coming off a decent Week 1 performance. He should be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 13:59:13 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 16, but is listed as questionable for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is on track to play in Week 2 and should receive plenty of work against the San Francisco 49ers. Stewart can be a decent No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart expected to play Week 2

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 09:59:44 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is expected to play in the Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Sept. 18, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart showed well in Week 1 against a stout Denver Broncos defense, and he's the clear No. 1 option in the Carolina backfield. The Panthers are big favorites over the 49ers this week, which should provide a positive game script for Stewart to provide RB2 value in most fantasy settings.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited again

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 11:50:58 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is expected to play in Week 2, but it is not known if he will be limited by the ankle injury. He rushed for 63 yards in Week 1 and should continue to receive a majority of the carries. Stewart can be a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited in practice

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 11:45:41 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 14, but head coach Ron Rivera said he has "no concern" with Stewart's ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is the clear No. 1 running back for the Panthers, and he looked elusive against a strong Denver Broncos defense in Week 1. With a home game against the San Francisco 49ers on tap in Week 2, look for Stewart to be a high-floor RB2 in the majority of settings. You'll just want to monitor his participation in practice this week.

Panthers | Carolina running backs improved

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 16:21:50 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne has lost about 10 pounds since last season, while RB Brandon Wegher is playing faster. Both seem ready to take more playing time away from RB Jonathan Stewart.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart will start as long as he's healthy, but good health sometimes eludes Stewart. Artis-Payne is a better prospect than Wegher, though, and is worth a late-round selection in fantasy drafts this summer.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart has big cap hit

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 12:27:27 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart carries a cap hit of $9.55 million to go with his base salary of $5 million in 2016. The Panthers would save $4 million in salary cap space if they released Stewart by June 1, but they are still expected to keep him.

Fantasy Tip: Carolina is comfortable enough with their salary cap that keeping Stewart isn't a big issue. There is still the possibility that he is released, but that seems highly unlikely, especially with the lack of quality depth behind Stewart. Keep him in your RB2 rankings for next season's drafts.

Panthers | Carolina not expected to add Matt Forte

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 10:41:15 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte likely will not be an option for the Carolina Panthers this offseason unless the team decides to release RB Jonathan Stewart.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart played well when he was healthy this past season and probably will return to the team, which means Forte will sign with another team. Stewart could be considered a No. 2 running back in some leagues next season, while Forte's value will depend on his new team.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart returns to Super Bowl

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 16:38:13 -0800

Updating an ongoing story, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) returned to Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Feb. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Whatever Stewart did to his foot, it isn't serious enough to keep him off the field. With that in mind, it is unlikely the injury would have any long-term impact on Stewart.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart has foot injury

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 16:19:44 -0800

Updating a previous story, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) exited Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos with a left foot injury and is questionable to return.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart back to practice

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:40:57 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle), who missed practice all of last week, was back on the practice field Monday, Feb. 1.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers are just being cautious with J-Stew ahead of the big game. He should be fine to play. He'll face another tough defensive front in the Denver Broncos, but if Stewart was able to put up 100 yards on the Seattle Seahawks, you can't count him out for another big performance.

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 10:10:06 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and RB Mike Tolbert (knee) and RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) are listed as questionable for the Super Bowl. Stewart and Tolbert didn't practice Friday, Jan. 29, while Whittaker was limited.

Fantasy Tip: All three should be good to go, and Stewart will lead the way. He'll have a pivotal role against the Denver Broncos to keep their devastating pass rush honest.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (rest), RB Mike Tolbert (knee) and RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) were out of practice again Thursday, Jan. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart had a solid showing with 83 yards rushing in the NFC Championship, and they'll need him to open up other areas of their offense in the Super Bowl.

Panthers | Three Panthers RBs not practicing

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 09:22:14 -0800

Carolina Panthers RBs Jonathan Stewart (rest), Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) and Mike Tolbert (knee) are not practicing Wednesday, Jan. 27, and RBs Cameron Artis-Payne and Brandon Wegher are seeing most of the work.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers have plenty of time to practice, so they're just resting some of their banged up players early in the week. J-Stew has had a very productive year despite missing time at the end of the regular season with an injury. He had two touchdowns and over 100 yards in the divisional round and 83 yards last week against the Arizona Cardinals. The Denver Broncos are a tough squad to run against, but the presence of Cam Newton could open some big holes for Stewart to exploit.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart has special streak

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 09:53:21 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart has rushed for at least 50 yards in 16 straight games, which is the NFL's longest active streak.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) became the first running back to go for over 100 yards against the Seattle Seahawks last week, so we know he's healthy after missing the last four weeks of the regular season with an ankle injury. It won't be easy against the Arizona Cardinals, but you should have confidence in J-Stew on FantasyScore.

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 08:58:58 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is probable for the NFC Championship game Sunday, Jan. 24, against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) is one of the higher-end RBs left, but he has a tough matchup on FantasyScore.

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 11:43:38 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 21, and head coach Ron Rivera said Stewart "looked pretty good." Rivera said Stewart is expected to play in the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) will be fine against the Cardinals and is a fine choice on FantasyScore, coming off the first 100-yard rushing game against the Seattle Seahawks last week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart practicing

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 09:27:09 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is returning to practice Thursday, Jan. 21, after taking a veteran day off Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) will be fine to play, but the Panthers are taking a cautious approach so that he doesn't incur a setback. He became the first running back to run for over 100 yards against the Seattle Seahawks, so you have to like him moving forward against the Arizona Cardinals.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart faces stiff D

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 20:06:38 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will face the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24. The Cardinals ranked sixth in the NFL against the rush in the regular season, giving up just 91.2 yards per game with nine touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) rolled for 106 yards and two touchdowns last weekend against a strong Seattle Seahawks defense, so he can be trusted by FantasyScore owners this week despite another touch matchup.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart expects to be ready

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 14:36:21 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) expects to be ready for the NFC Championship Sunday, Jan. 24, after tweaking his ankle in the second half of the divisional round last weekend. Head coach Ron Rivera said the team is easing him back into action. Stewart rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Seattle Seahawks and became the first rusher to go for over 100 yards against Seattle this year. The Panthers have rushed for 100-plus yards in 30 straight games, including the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: The Seahawks were the toughest fantasy matchup for running backs this year. So if J-Stew ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) was able to conquer them, there's no reason he can't put up respectable numbers against the Cardinals, too.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart won't be rushed back

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 13:11:57 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot, ankle) will be eased back into action, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: As reported earlier, Stewart ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) did not practice today. If he continues to miss practice this week then he could be at least limited for the NFC Championship game against the Arizona Cardinals. If Stewart doesn't get a full practice in this week, he could be a risky FantasyScore play.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart idle Wednesday

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 08:20:45 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot, ankle) is out of practice Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) is among the top RBs left, but it's worth debating if you want to dump that much of your cap on him against the Arizona Cardinals on FantasyScore.

Mon, 18 Jan 2016 09:51:31 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in the divisional round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart posted his third 100-yard game of the season and has four touchdowns in his last three games. Stewart should see plenty of work against the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship game and could be a solid starting option in fantasy leagues.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart ran for 84 yards and two touchdowns in the first half of the divisional playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It was a dominating first half for the Panthers, who went into the locker room up 31-0. Stewart could continue to see plenty of work in an attempt to drain the clock and keep Seattle off the field.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart active Sunday

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 09:06:52 -0800

Confirming previous reports, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) is active for the NFC divisional-round game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) missed the final four games of the regular season and does not have a favorable matchup against the Seattle defense. He is not a recommended option in FantasyScore this week.

Panthers | No limitations for J-Stew, Ginn

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 11:45:52 -0800

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said there are no limitations for RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) and WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) this week, and both will play against the Seattle Seahawks this weekend. Both players were taken off the injury report Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Fantasy Tip: It's good news for the Panthers, but both Stewart ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) and Ginn ($6,700) are in for a tough matchup against the Seahawks. Both are bust candidates. Make sure to temper expectations, especially for Stewart, who missed the final four regular season games.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) is looking fast in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13, and that RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) is looking strong.

Fantasy Tip: Both Ginn ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) and Stewart ($6,700) are expected to be fine to face the Seattle Seahawks, but both are bust candidates in daily formats. This divisional round matchup figures to be dominated by defense, and Stewart is even more risky after missing the last three weeks.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) returned to practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart, Ted Ginn will practice

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 09:42:48 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) and WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) will both be on the practice field Wednesday, Jan. 13, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Both Stewart and Ginn missed Week 17 but are expected to play against the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round. RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) is a question mark.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Stewart nor Ginn will be popular daily picks in the divisional round against a stout Seahawks defense. Stewart is especially unattractive coming off an injury against the toughest defense for fantasy players against the run this season.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart, Ted Ginn limited

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 11:05:42 -0800

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) and WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) were both limited at practice Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Both players did conditioning drills on the side Tuesday. With an extra week to rest, you'd expect that both Stewart and Ginn would be ready to go in the divisional round. It's unknown who the Panthers will play, so their value on FantasyScore is still a bit up in the air. Stewart is the bigger question mark with his injury.
