Panthers | Jonathan Stewart off injury report

Fri, 20 Oct 2017 15:09:22 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 20, and has been removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 7 game with the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart and Christian McCaffrey will divvy up the workload in the Carolina backfield on Sunday, with Stewart acting as the hammer with more carries and McCaffrey catching the ball more out of the backfield. Stewart is a decent RB3 or flex option.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited Wednesday

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 12:08:25 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart couldn't run through a pile of cotton candy with the way he's been playing this year. His running mate, Christian McCaffrey, is the far superior play in both standard and PPR leagues nowadays. Stewart can keep wasting away on the bench as it's unlikely anyone besides his immediate family members want to trade for him at this point.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart needs more carries

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 19:20:22 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart needs to be more involved in the offense, according to QB Cam Newton.

Fantasy Tip: Carolina's ground game is a mess right now, and the Panthers are currently tied for 29th in yards per carry. Stewart is averaging just 2.9 yards per carry, and he has 17 rushing yards over the last two games combined. You are better off benching him until he shows signs of life.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart totals negative yards

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 21:35:06 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart had eight carries for minus-four yards during the team's Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Stewart was targeted twice in the passing game but did not record a reception.

Fantasy Tip: After gaining just 21 yards on 18 carries in Motown, Stewart went backwards Thursday night, giving him 17 yards on his last 26 carries. The veteran hasn't scored this season and hasn't reached 70 yards in a game. That's a bad combination, and it's ample reason to keep Stewart on your bench until further notice.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was a limited practice participant Tuesday, Oct. 10, after missing practice Monday, Oct. 9.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 18 times for 21 yards in Week 5 against the Detroit Lions, and he added three grabs for 23 yards on his three targets.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions bottled up the rushing attack of the Panthers, so Carolina went to the air for most of its offensive production. He'll face another tough matchup in Week 6 on Thursday night against an Eagles rush defense which entered Week 4 ranked No. 1 in the NFC, and No. 2 in the NFL.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart doesn't do a lot

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 15:48:58 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 15 times for 40 yards in Week 2 against the Bills and he didn't have a reception on just one target.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart had 15 touches to 12 for rookie Christian McCaffrey, so J-Stew remains the lead dog in Charlotte - but not by much. He should find plenty of open spaces in Week 3 against the visiting Saints, but treat him as a RB3 or flex play in most formats.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 19:51:01 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 18 times for a game-high 65 yards while adding two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 at San Francisco.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart had a total of 20 touches while rookie Christian McCaffrey managed 18 touches in his return to the Bay Area, essentially an even split. As such, Stewart should be treated as more of a RB3 option in most standard fantasy leagues, and a low-end RB2 in PPR formats. The Panthers host the Bills in Week 2.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to see short-yardage work

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 07:24:31 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is expected to receive the short-yardage work, in the opinion of the Charlotte Observer's Scott Fowler.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew had nine touchdowns last season, but injuries have dogged him throughout his career, and he's aging. He's an RB3 in fantasy, but he's devalued in PPR formats a bit.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to remain a factor?

Thu, 06 Jul 2017 18:20:20 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart's role will remain unchanged according to head coach Ron Rivera and running backs coach Jim Skipper.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to imagine Stewart remaining the workhorse after Carolina drafted Christian McCaffrey No. 8 overall, but at the very least, it sounds like he will remain in a prominent role. His size could earn him the carries around the goal line, making him a sneaky RB3 candidate.

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 08:23:49 -0700

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart fine with team drafting RB

Sat, 25 Mar 2017 11:37:48 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart said he believes it would be a good thing if the Panthers selected a running back in the 2017 NFL draft because it would keep him fresher late in games.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart should be the starting running back for the Panthers next season but could lose some carries if the team adds a rookie running back. He has rushed for at least 800 yards in each of the last three season and has 15 touchdowns in the last two years. He should be considered a No. 3 running back in most leagues and possibly a low-end No. 2 back in deeper leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart extended

Fri, 24 Mar 2017 06:10:44 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart signed a contract extension through the 2018 season Friday, March 24. Stewart had a cap figure of $8.25 million, and the extension was expected to reduce that in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: The 30-year-old has been oft-injured, but he has been productive in the spurts he has been out there. His nine touchdowns last season were the most since 2009. However, there are rumblings the team is looking to draft a running back early in the 2017 NFL Draft, maybe Leonard Fournette, and that would reduce J-Stew's potential impact. He's a low-end RB2 for now, but that could dampen as the draft approaches.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart in 2017 plans

Tue, 07 Feb 2017 07:14:22 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart appears to be in the team's plans for 2017. Head coach Ron Rivera mentioned Stewart by name in saying the team can't rely on its quarterback as its leading rusher. "We've got to get guys like Jonathan Stewart rolling. We've got to put it in our backs' hands and get the ball to our playmakers."

Fantasy Tip: There was some question as to whether the team would move on from the soon-to-be 30-year-old. However, they're expected to bring in competition at the position. Stewart is oft-injured, but he has been serviceable in committees. Age and attrition might bump him down into the RB3 area in fantasy.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart a possible cut?

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 06:42:39 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart could be a possible cut in the offseason, in the opinion of beat writer David Newton. The move would save the team $6.25 million with a post-June 1 designation.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart turns 30 in March, and he has really been dogged with injuries the last five seasons. The best-case scenario would be for him to land in another timeshare role and be a low-end RB2 in drafts.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart totals 72 yards, score

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 20:12:16 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 20 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he added one reception for seven yards on his two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart finished with 825 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, his second-best rushing yardage total over the past seven seasons. His eight rushing scores were also his most since 2009. When healthy Stewart is a decent fantasy option, but he missed four games again this season. He can be a useful fantasy option, but plan to draft depth in 2017 if you want Stewart.
