Buccaneers | GM hints Ronde Barber could play safety

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said in an interview that the team may still move CB Ronde Barber to safety. "If we need to make a move to pull (Barber) back from safety to corner, we can do that in a heartbeat," Dominik said when asked about the possibility of losing CB Aqib Talib following his trial on assault charges in June.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib's trial for assault with a deadly weapon has been moved back to June 25. It was originally moved from March 26 to April 16. The Buccaneers wanted to learn the outcome of the trial before the 2012 NFL Draft so they would know if they needed to draft a cornerback.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib's one-game suspension in the 2010 season for an incident with a cab driver has cost him dearly for the upcoming season. Talib's suspension kicked in an automatic forfeiture of an escalator for the 2012 season that could have been worth up to $2.8 million.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said CB Aqib Talib will be back with the team next year despite his trial in March for felony assault with a deadly weapon. "Aqib is a really good football player," Morris said. "If we can get Aqib back healthy and get him going, get him stronger, get him faster, get him better - all those things he'll do this offseason, we can't wait to go back to war with him and get him back on our football team. So he's always one of those guys like that."

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed CB Aqib Talib (hamstring) on the Injured Reserve Monday, Dec. 19, and signed free-agent DL Jovan Haye (Lions) in a corresponding move. The team also signed free-agent LB Mike Balogun (Cowboys) and released TE Martell Webb.
