Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley will earn $5.75 million in 2012 and $8.25 million in 2013, according to a league source. He will receive all but about $2 million of his 2012 salary in bonuses before the season starts. However, the second-year total includes a $4.45 million roster bonus due the 15th day of the league year that would allow the Packers to cut ties with Finley with no future effect to their salary cap if he flames out this season. However, if they pay it, Finley will have pocketed $10.2 million over the first 13 months of the deal.

Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, said Friday, Feb. 3, that there has been no movement on a new contract with the team. "Hey, it's the NFL," Finley said from Radio Row in Indianapolis. "With business right now, I don't even know what's going on. You just have to play that (waiting) game. It's the Green Bay way."

The Green Bay Packers are likely to slap the franchise tag on TE Jermichael Finley, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March. The franchise number for tight ends is expected to drop from $7.3 million in 2011 to about $5.5 million due to the change in how the figure is calculated under the new collective bargaining agreement. There has been talk Finley will attempt to qualify as a receiver for franchise tag purposes, but he clearly played the majority of his snaps in-line as a TE and won't be able to win that argument.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday, Jan. 18, that his No. 1 goal for TE Jermichael Finley was having him make it through the entire season without a significant injury. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, but McCarthy sounded like he wants Finley back. "I had an opportunity to speak to every player so Jermichael and I talked about his year," McCarthy said. "He didn't feel great about the way it went. He knows he has a lot of really good football in front of him. I think Jermichael is a very talented young man and I would emphasize young. He needs and offseason program like a lot (of) guys and I think he'll continue to grow and be an outstanding football player for us."
