Patriots | Plenty of action for Martellus Bennett?

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 14:45:08 -0700

New England Patriots TEs Martellus Bennett and Rob Gronkowski could be on the field together for up to 80% of the Patriots' plays, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. Head coach Bill Belichick views the tight ends as interchangeable and believes they can cause problems for opposing defenses when they're on the field at the same time.

Fantasy Tip: New England hasn't been shy about two-tight end sets in previous years. The Gronk-Bennett duo would be dynamic in the red zone, too, at least on paper. They could also be used together more frequently in the first four games of the season to give Jimmy Garoppolo more high-percentage targets. Gronk is the No. 1 fantasy tight end when healthy, even with Bennett "interfering," but Bennett deserves more credit behind Gronk and is draftable as a midrange TE2.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett fine in backup role

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 15:26:13 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett said he doesn't mind playing second fiddle to TE Rob Gronkowski this year. "I really don't mind being Robin, you know? So right now it's just working every day and just trying to get better. He's an excellent player, and I'm gonna be able to get a lot of single coverages with him," Bennett said. He has impressed in organized team activities this offseason as a newcomer with his size and athleticism.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett may be listed as the No. 2 tight end on the Pats' depth chart this year, but that doesn't mean he won't make a huge fantasy impact in his first season in New England. Expect the Patriots to use plenty of two-tight end sets. Bennett has been a dynamic pass-catching tight end the last few years with the Bears and Giants, and his value should remain high again in 2016. Consider him more of a low-end TE1 on draft day.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett dodges a bullet

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 19:42:51 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (knee) had a minor injury scare at one point in practice Wednesday, June 8, during minicamp. The veteran was attended to by the training staff, focusing on his left knee. After a brief absence he was able to return to drills and team work. Bennett worked with FB James Develin and fellow TEs A.J. Derby and Michael Williams on blocking drills.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett could still be a valuable fantasy option in the New England offense despite the presence of Rob Gronkowski, as you only need to go back to the days of Aaron Hernandez and know there is plenty of ball to go around. Still, he should be treated more as a TE2 or flex option at this point.

Patriots | Tom Brady working with Martellus Bennett

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 11:17:45 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was working one-on-one with TE Martellus Bennett in the red zone during practice Tuesday, June 7.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots likely will use Bennett and Rob Gronkowski at the same time in 2016, which makes Bennett a valuable fantasy option. He should be considered a No. 2 tight end for most owners, but he could be a low-end No. 1 or a flex option against favorable matchups.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett, Tom Brady connecting

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:44:03 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Martellus Bennett connected several times in the red zone, including some touchdowns, during organized team activities Thursday, May 26. Bennett was New England's primary tight end in practice with TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) not practicing.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Gronk is healthy, Bennett will play second fiddle. Bennett could prove to be a viable red-zone threat, though, and is still worth drafting as a TE2 in his new confines.

Bears | Chicago trades Martellus Bennett

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 16:43:04 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett has been traded to the New England Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, according to sources. The Bears also traded a sixth-round pick.

Fantasy Tip: The Bears may have felt more comfortable in finally trading Bennett after re-signing Zach Miller. Miller now gets a nice boost in fantasy value as he will be Chicago's primary tight end. Miller played well last year despite backing up Bennett. He's not quite starting fantasy tight end material, but he's capable of reaching that status.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett acquired by Pats

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 16:31:07 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett has been acquired by the New England Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, according to sources. The Bears are also giving the Patriots a sixth-round draft pick.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots now have two of the best fantasy tight ends at their disposal between Bennett and Rob Gronkowski. It's hard to believe Gronk won't lose some fantasy value, but he's still a top-tier fantasy tight end. Bennett could be used more as a blocker, which is the role he played more than he wanted to in Chicago. The Patriots have proven they can make two tight ends mesh well, though, going back to the Gronk and Aaron Hernandez days. Bennett isn't likely to put up the same numbers he did in Chicago, at least when he first started there, and he should now be viewed as a low-end TE1 to high-end TE2.

Bears | Jermaine Gresham visiting Bears

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 13:28:17 -0800

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Cardinals) will visit the Chicago Bears in light of Bears TE Martellus Bennett being shopped.

Fantasy Tip: If Bennett is traded, the Bears will likely acquire a downgrade at tight end. Gresham did little in Arizona and hasn't been a fantasy factor since his days with the Cincinnati Bengals. He should be avoided no matter where he plays.

Jets | Martellus Bennett unlikely for Jets

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 10:14:25 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is not expected to receive trade interest from the New York Jets, according to Dom Cosentino of NJ Advance Media.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets may still very well target a tight end this offseason, but Bennett costs too pretty a penny for them right now. New York's current situation at tight end with Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland leaves something to be desired. They can be avoided in fantasy drafts.

Bears | Martellus Bennett up for grabs

Fri, 04 Mar 2016 06:22:32 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett's agent, Kennard McGuire, and the team are working to trade Bennett to an agreeable landing spot Friday, March 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is one year removed from a big 90-916-6 season and turns 29 next week. There should be plenty left in the tank as a TE1 if he lands in a good spot.
