Bears | Chicago trades Martellus Bennett

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 16:43:04 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett has been traded to the New England Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, according to sources. The Bears also traded a sixth-round pick.

Fantasy Tip: The Bears may have felt more comfortable in finally trading Bennett after re-signing Zach Miller. Miller now gets a nice boost in fantasy value as he will be Chicago's primary tight end. Miller played well last year despite backing up Bennett. He's not quite starting fantasy tight end material, but he's capable of reaching that status.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett acquired by Pats

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 16:31:07 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett has been acquired by the New England Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, according to sources. The Bears are also giving the Patriots a sixth-round draft pick.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots now have two of the best fantasy tight ends at their disposal between Bennett and Rob Gronkowski. It's hard to believe Gronk won't lose some fantasy value, but he's still a top-tier fantasy tight end. Bennett could be used more as a blocker, which is the role he played more than he wanted to in Chicago. The Patriots have proven they can make two tight ends mesh well, though, going back to the Gronk and Aaron Hernandez days. Bennett isn't likely to put up the same numbers he did in Chicago, at least when he first started there, and he should now be viewed as a low-end TE1 to high-end TE2.

Bears | Jermaine Gresham visiting Bears

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 13:28:17 -0800

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Cardinals) will visit the Chicago Bears in light of Bears TE Martellus Bennett being shopped.

Fantasy Tip: If Bennett is traded, the Bears will likely acquire a downgrade at tight end. Gresham did little in Arizona and hasn't been a fantasy factor since his days with the Cincinnati Bengals. He should be avoided no matter where he plays.

Jets | Martellus Bennett unlikely for Jets

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 10:14:25 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is not expected to receive trade interest from the New York Jets, according to Dom Cosentino of NJ Advance Media.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets may still very well target a tight end this offseason, but Bennett costs too pretty a penny for them right now. New York's current situation at tight end with Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland leaves something to be desired. They can be avoided in fantasy drafts.

Bears | Martellus Bennett up for grabs

Fri, 04 Mar 2016 06:22:32 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett's agent, Kennard McGuire, and the team are working to trade Bennett to an agreeable landing spot Friday, March 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is one year removed from a big 90-916-6 season and turns 29 next week. There should be plenty left in the tank as a TE1 if he lands in a good spot.

Bears | Chicago shopping Martellus Bennett?

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 18:32:45 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is a potential trade candidate this offseason, but the team is in no rush to move him.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett's role in the offense decreased as the year went on, and his value in 2016 will depend largely on where he ends up playing. In the right scenario, he could be a low-end TE1.

Bears | Martellus Bennett may not return

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 07:11:22 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) is unlikely to return to the team next season. Multiple sources told the Chicago Tribune that Bennett had a temperamental outburst during practice leading up to Thanksgiving Day game and had been growing increasingly moody as his role in the offense evolved. Bennett's targets decreased from 11.6 per game in October to 5.8 in November. Bennett has two years left on his contract, but he has no guaranteed money remaining.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is out for the season with a ribs injury. Zach Miller ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) had just one catch for six yards last week and isn't a great FantasyScore option this week against the Washington Redskins.

Bears | Martellus Bennett placed on IR

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 12:30:26 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 8, as he is dealing with fractured ribs. Free-agent TE Rob Housler (Browns) was subsequently signed.

Fantasy Tip: Zach Miller ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) should take over the lead tight end role for the Bears with Bennett out. He's a decent flyer pick for FantasyScore lineups since he'll be starting and he's still cheap, but his Week 14 opponent, the Washington Redskins, has only given up two touchdowns to tight ends all year.

Bears | Martellus Bennett day-to-day

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 14:18:44 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (rib) remains day-to-day, according to head coach John Fox. Bennett played in Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers but had just three catches for 14 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett isn't close to full health and could continue to suffer as a result for his fantasy owners. A matchup against the Washington Redskins in Week 14 shouldn't have you too hopeful that he'll break out, either.

Bears | Martellus Bennett to play Sunday

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 07:41:13 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) will play in Week 13's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) was listed as probable on the team's most recent injury report despite dealing with cracked ribs. He participated in full practices during the week and should be viewed as a low-end TE1 or high-end TE2 versus San Francisco, with Marquess Wilson (foot) out and Eddie Royal (knee) expected to miss the game.
