The Minnesota Twins will place SP Ricky Nolasco (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain Tuesday, July 8. OF Chris Herrmann will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester. The move is retroactive to July 6. The Twins haven't announced who'll replace Nolasco in the rotation, but it could be SPs Samuel Deduno or Anthony Swarzak. Herrmann was batting .314 with two home runs and 15 RBIs with Rochester and had been splitting time between catcher and the outfield.
Fantasy Tip: Nolasco should only be held onto in AL-only leagues at this point. Deduno or Swarzak likely only have short-term value in the starting rotation and aren't worth much consideration, aside from AL leagues.

Minnesota Twins SP Samuel Deduno likely will rejoin the starting rotation after SP Yohan Pino was sent down in the minors.

Minnesota Twins SP Samuel Deduno will move back to the bullpen. SP Yohan Pino will make the start Thursday, June 19.
Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Pino will have an extended stay in the starting rotation. He deserves the shot, though, as he was sporting a sub-2.00 ERA at Triple-A Rochester. Consider Pino only in AL-only leagues, for now.

The Minnesota Twins have switched SP Samuel Deduno and SP Ricky Nolasco in the starting rotation. Deduno is now scheduled to start Saturday, May 24, and Nolsaco will start Sunday, May 25.

Minnesota Twins SP Samuel Deduno (shoulder) is back in the rotation, and he is hopeful of sticking around. He will make his first start of the season Tuesday, May 6, against the Cleveland Indians, his first outing since ending last season on the 15-day disabled list due to a sore right shoulder Aug. 30. "We worried about that at spring training, coming off surgery, so we put him in the bullpen," manager Ron Gardenhire said Monday, May 5. "I guess we'll find out whether his shoulder will be able to take throwing every fifth day. That's what we'll find out, with longer stints and more pitches."
Fantasy Tip: Deduno has pretty good stuff, and he might be a useful fantasy option for owners in AL-only formats if he can stick around.

Minnesota Twins SP Mike Pelfrey (groin) will be placed on the disabled list with a groin injury and P Samuel Deduno will take his place in the starting rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Deduno makes for a fine addition to your pitching staff in AL leagues now that he'll be starting every fifth day. Keep an eye on Alex Meyer, one of the team's top pitching prospects, in deep leagues in case Deduno doesn't work out.

Minnesota Twins P Samuel Deduno, who allowed three runs and seven hits while walking two and striking out four in four innings of relief Thursday, May 1, is a candidate to enter the starting rotation with SP Mike Pelfrey struggling. Pelfrey allowed five runs and seven hits while walking three in a season-low four innings Thursday, and he's yet to go longer than 5 1/3 innings in any start this year and has walked 18 hitters in 23 2/3 frames on the year. Manager Ron Gardenhire hasn't ruled out a move to the bullpen for Pelfrey, and Pelfrey said he'd be OK with a move in order to straighten himself out.
Fantasy Tip: A move with Pelfrey is not official yet, but it seems to be inevitable. Grab Deduno in AL-only leagues if you need innings.

Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson has won the team's final rotation spot to begin the season, which will move SP Samuel Deduno to the bullpen. Gibson posted a 2.70 ERA in four spring outings (two starts).
Fantasy Tip: Gibson is one the the best pitching prospects coming into the big leagues. He's more than a year removed from Tommy John surgery, too. However, he doesn't miss a ton of bats, although his home park should help him in that arena. He's worth a stash in AL-only leagues now that he's won a spot.

Minnesota Twins SP Samuel Deduno appears to be the club's "biggest beneficiary" of Ervin Santana signing with the Atlanta Braves, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Santana was offered a deal by Minnesota, but the fact it didn't work out strengthens Deduno's case for a rotation gig with the Twins. He has made a full recovery from surgery to repair a frayed labrum and rotator cuff in September. In three spring games, he has a 1.35 ERA with a .227 opponents' batting average in 6 2/3 innings. Manager Ron Gardenhire endorsed Deduno after his three-shutout-inning appearance Sunday, March 9.
Fantasy Tip: He's battling Mike Pelfrey and Kyle Gibson, among others, and AL-only diggers should be the only ones concerned here for now.

Minnesota Twins SPs Samuel Deduno, Vance Worley, Scott Diamond and Kyle Gibson are competing for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, and assistant GM Rob Antony has said he doesn't believe there's a clear-cut front-runner. Deduno, Worley and Diamond don't have options remaining.
MLB.com reporter Rhett Bolinger believes Deduno appears to be the slight favorite because of his success in 2013 (3.83 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 41 walks in 108 innings). He appears to be healthy after having gone arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last September, too. Manager Ron Gardenhire indicated that he'd like Deduno to make the club one way or another following the right-hander's three scoreless innings on Sunday, March 9. "He's filthy," Gardenhire remarked.
Fantasy Tip: Whoever wins this job is unlikely to have relevance in mixed leagues, but all of them have either produced the results or boasted the promise, or both, to be useful in them. Deduno and Gibson fit the bill most, but it's mostly AL-only managers who should be following them.
