Pittsburgh Pirates C Russell Martin (neck) is out of the lineup again Monday, May 13, but the team is hoping he can return Tuesday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Mike McKenry is getting all the playing time with Martin hurting. Tony Sanchez, the team's former first-round pick, was on call last weekend in case Martin needed to be placed on the disabled list. It looks like Martin will avoid a trip to the DL, so sit tight for now.

The Pittsburgh Pirates declined C Rod Barajas' $3.5 million option for the 2013 season Wednesday, Oct. 31, making him a free agent. The team will look to re-sign him to a reduced salary. C Mike McKenry will be given the chance to win the starting job at catcher next season.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA in his last three starts with C Mike McKenry behind the plate. Karstens allowed four runs in seven innings in his lone start with C Rod Barajas doing the catching. It wouldn't be surprising to see McKenry catch Karstens down the road.

Pittsburgh Pirates C Rod Barajas was ejected in the second inning of the team's game Wednesday, May 2, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is the team's first played ejected this season. C Mike McKenry replaced him behind the plate. Manager Clint Hurdle was also tossed.
