Jets | Matt Forte to be workhorse?

Fri, 23 Jun 2017 07:38:46 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte will be the offensive workhorse this season, in the opinion of NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes.

Fantasy Tip: Forte will be 32 late in the season, and the signs of age have been showing for a couple of years now. Bilal Powell is also waiting in the wings, which doesn't lend to conventional wisdom to use Forte as the workhorse. Forte is still a useful PPR back, but it's only as an RB3.

Jets | Matt Forte likely to stay

Wed, 14 Jun 2017 06:21:37 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte is likely to remain with the team because he is guaranteed $4 million this season, in the opinion of beat writer Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: Forte turns 32 in December and is oft-injured. His seven rushing touchdowns last season were the most he has had since 2013, but his 3.7 yards per carry was the second-lowest average of his career. He's still a serviceable RB3 in PPR leagues, but the upside is minimal.

Jets | Backfield committee to be used by Jets

Tue, 23 May 2017 11:31:16 -0700

New York Jets RBs Matt Forte and Bilal Powell will serve as a two-man backfield committee this season, according to offensive coordinator John Morton. Morton added that the offensive gameplan will vary from week to week, but a timeshare is expected.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't positive news for Powell, who was expected by many to take over New York's backfield. He still could, but Forte won't be pushed aside easily. Powell remains the more valuable back from a fantasy perspective and should be viewed as a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 with added profit in PPR leagues. Forte is more of a flex consideration, although he could see more goal-line carries.

Jets | Matt Forte more productive on the road

Fri, 27 Jan 2017 16:46:43 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte rushed for 419 yards and six touchdowns on the road this season while rushing for 394 yards and one touchdown at home.

Fantasy Tip: Forte lost some of his touches during the season half of the season and finished the season on the Reserve/Injured list because of a knee injury. He probably would be part of a committee if he stays with the Jets but could still be a No. 3 running back for owners depending on his role.

Jets | Matt Forte undergoes knee surgery

Mon, 02 Jan 2017 10:46:13 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) underwent surgery for a torn meniscus Friday, Dec. 30, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Forte should have no issues returning in time for spring workouts, but his role for 2017 is unclear. Bilal Powell finished the season strong even as the Jets' offense feel apart around him and has earned the right to a 50-50 split of the workload in New York, if not the starting job. It will be surprising if Forte is much more than a flex option in 2017.

Jets | Matt Forte placed on IR

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 13:24:57 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Dec. 30. The team also promoted practice squad CB Bryson Keeton to their active roster.

Fantasy Tip: Bilal Powell likely will serve as the starting running back in Week 17 and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues. Forte probably will share work with Powell if both are back with the team next season and should be considered as depth at running back for fantasy teams.

Jets | Matt Forte will not play in season finale

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 11:10:47 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee, shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Forte wraps up his first season in New York with career lows almost across the board, including carries (218), rushing yards (813), receptions (30) and receiving yards (263). Bilal Powell is listed as questionable, but he is expected to start barring a setback.

Jets | Matt Forte out of practice

Thu, 29 Dec 2016 08:15:09 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Bilal Powell (knee) is also sitting out, which could thrust Brandon Wilds or Brandon Burks in position to see action in Week 17. Both would be really speculative flex options against the Buffalo Bills.

Jets | Matt Forte does not practice

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 14:26:08 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Forte was not able to play in Week 16 and it is not looking good for his Week 17 availability. Owners should check on his status later in the week but may want to avoid him even if he plays because he probably would receive limited touches.

Jets | Matt Forte a no-go Tuesday

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 10:42:10 -0800

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (shoulder, knee) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is highly unlikely to play in Week 17 versus the Buffalo Bills and could land on the Reserve/Injured list later this week. The veteran runner has played with a torn meniscus for most of the season and reportedly has nerve damage in his shoulder as well. Bilal Powell should see another heavy workload this weekend.
