Redskins | Davis to spend extra time preparing during bye week
Tue, 27 Oct 2009 10:37:04 -0700 Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis had planned on returning to Los Angeles, where he attended Southern California, during the upcoming bye week. However, now that Davis is the team's primary option at tight end with the loss of TE Chris Cooley (ankle), he will stay and prepare at the team's facility. Davis caught eight passes for 78 yards and one touchdown in Week 7. "Not the way you want it," Davis said of his new role. "But this is an opportunity. That's how this league is. One guy goes out, you got to be able to fill the shoes - or try. In this situation, that's why they drafted me in the second round."

Davis is more confident running pass routes and head coach Jim Zorn said he has noticed a difference in Davis' play. Davis said, "Last year I was new to the system. Now I'm more familiar with it and more comfortable. I can play with the speed I'm accustomed to playing at. I don't have to think as much--I can rely on my instincts and just go out there and play."
