WBIR.com reports the DUI case of former Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Travis Stephens will be bound over to a grand jury. He was stopped driving 70 in a construction zone February 12. He was arrested and charged with DUI.

The Tampa Tribune reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Travis Stephens is being watched like a hawk by head coach Jon Gruden. The team is looking for him to step up and not just by doing well carrying the football. They want him to pick up assignments, blitzes and catch the ball. Due to the depth at running back, Stephens is sticking around after practice to work on his receiving skills. He's likely to be given a lot of work in the pre-season games to show what he can do.

The St. Petersburg Times reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden is trying to create a “robo back” in Tampa. He wants “the perfect back,” one that has the size and inside power that FB Mike Alstott has, the explosive in-the-hole running and pass-pattern running that Michael Pittman has and the lateral quickness of rookie Travis Stephens. Since it’s impossible to create a back, Gruden plans to use each to their strengths. "Our backs are kind of like a committee. We're going to utilize the whole committee throughout the season," he said. He also said they need to do a better job of creatively getting RB Aaron Stecker involved in the offense.

We try to be smart with the time off, and I think that ankle injury, I don’t know what it did, but it must have snuck up on (Pittman) again. We hope to have him out here in the next 24-48 hours," said coach Jon Gruden.

The deal includes a $320,000 signing bonus. Stephens will earn base salaries of $225,000 (2002), $300,000 (2003), $380,000 (2004), and $455,000 (2005).

Gruden said Stephens gives the team a thick, extra-quick back that complements RBs Michael Pittman and Mike Alstott. RBs coach Kirby Wilson said that Stephens is a power runner. Stephens will likely compete for playing time as a third down back but his most immediate impact may come on special teams as the team will give him a chance to return kickoffs.
