Packers | Jordy Nelson still a longshot for Sunday

Tue, 17 Jan 2017 09:27:53 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) has a chance to play in the NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons, but it is only a small chance, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers' medical staff is known to be among the most conservative in the NFL, so the odds are long Nelson will suit up two weeks after suffering broken ribs. He appears to be getting in some light workouts, so perhaps a return for the Super Bowl - should the Packers advance - is possible. Until then, Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison and an injured Davante Adams figure to be Green Bay's top three receivers once again.

Packers | Jordy Nelson's practice status unclear

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 14:03:23 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson's (ribs) practice availability for Wednesday, Jan. 18, is unclear, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Nelson did work out Monday, Jan. 16, however.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers could certainly use the NFL's 2016 leader in touchdowns for the NFC Championship, but they can obviously succeed without him. Nelson could end up as a game-time decision, so his status will need to be monitored up until Sunday.

Packers | Jordy Nelson still has breathing issues

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 07:08:48 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) said Sunday, Jan. 15, that he still isn't able to breathe normally because of his ribs injury.

Fantasy Tip: There is optimism that he'll be able to play in the NFC title game this week, but it's far from a given. Nelson will likely be affected by the injury if he suits up, and he might slip into the WR2 area against the Atlanta Falcons.

Packers | Jordy Nelson may play if team advances

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 10:44:15 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) will not play in the Divisional round playoff game, but the Packers hope he could play in the NFC Championship game if they defeat the Dallas Cowboys this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the team's practice if they are able to advance in the playoffs. Nelson probably would have to do something at practice if he had a chance to play. He would be a risky option for owners if the Packers make the NFC Championship game.

Packers | Jordy Nelson ruled out

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 07:49:44 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) has been ruled out for the divisional round game against the Dallas Cowboys. He's feeling better every day, according to head coach Mike McCarthy, and the team will re-evaluate him Monday, Jan. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Geronimo Allison will have a bigger role, and he'll be a flex option. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams receive boosts as well. Cobb, on the heels of three touchdowns last week, is a borderline WR1 in fantasy. Adams is a low-end WR2 option.

Packers | Jordy Nelson to miss practice

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 09:06:24 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) will not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson's status will be updated Friday, Jan. 13, so owners will need to monitor the situation. He probably will be limited if he plays against the Dallas Cowboys, which would hurt his fantasy value. Owners probably should look for other options to use and may want to avoid Nelson.

Packers | Jordy Nelson to be evaluated Friday

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 08:49:34 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) is making progress, and the team will evaluate him Friday, Jan. 13, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: That provides a shred of hope, but Nelson is still very iffy to play in the divisional round against the Dallas Cowboys. Geronimo Allison is a flex option in playoff pools if Nelson can't suit up or is limited.

Packers | Pessimism on Jordy Nelson

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 08:34:34 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) seems unlikely to play in the divisional round against the Dallas Cowboys after QB Aaron Rodgers' comments Thursday, Jan. 12, shed doubts. "We're going to try to get this one and hopefully get him back if he can't play this week," Rodgers said.

Fantasy Tip: He already seemed doubtful to go this week, but if he can practice Thursday or Friday, there is still a chance. He'd probably be too risky to use as a top receiver in fantasy because of potential snap limitations or the risk of aggravating the injury. Geronimo Allison is a flex option in playoff pools.

Packers | Jordy Nelson does not practice

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 15:36:22 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Packers | Jordy Nelson must practice, could play

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 16:14:40 -0800

Updating a previous item, Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) needs to practice by Saturday, Jan. 14, or else he will not play this weekend, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson has a long week ahead of him after suffering two fractured ribs against the New York Giants. As stated earlier, Geronimo Allison should see more targets if Nelson can't go Sunday. He'd be worth a look in daily contests at what should be a dirt cheap price.

Packers | Jordy Nelson has two fractured ribs

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 15:38:52 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) suffered two fractured ribs against the New York Giants Sunday, Jan. 8. It will take "an incredible effort" for him to play against the Dallas Cowboys this weekend, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson faces an uphill battle this week in an effort to play in the divisional round. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams should once again see the bulk of targets if Nelson can't play, while Geronimo Allison would be an under-the-radar option for those in fantasy playoff leagues.

Packers | Jordy Nelson stayed at hospital

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 15:21:33 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) spent the night in the hospital Sunday, Jan. 8, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson's availability is very much in jeopardy for the divisional round of the playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys. If Nelson can't play then Geronimo Allison will likely be the main beneficiary and would be worth a good look in daily contests as a cheaper play.

Packers | Geronimo Allison could have big role

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 19:55:00 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Geronimo Allison will "have to step up and play extended time" if WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) is unable to play against the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Allison played well at the end of the regular season when Randall Cobb was out, and he could make a solid DFS sleeper if Nelson is sidelined.

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 18:03:44 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson's (ribs) injury is a concern, according to head coach Mike McCarthy, but McCarthy said no update on his condition is currently available.

Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on Nelson's status heading into the divisional round. If he sits, Davante Adams and Randall Cobb could make a rewarding DFS combo to stack.

Packers | Jordy Nelson won't return

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 15:29:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) won't return against the New York Giants Sunday, Jan. 8, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 14:44:44 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (rib) left the Wild Card playoff game early because of a rib injury and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson appeared to be in a lot of pain after being hit in the ribs and was carted to the locker room. Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if he will be able to return to the game or if he will be able to play next week if the team advances to the Divisional round of the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns, and he has been playing his best football in recent weeks. He should be one of the top fantasy options at his positon against Detroit in Week 17.

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 15:02:42 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson finished with nine catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns in Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson has recorded at least six catches in each of his last five games, scoring twice in two of them and once in another. His 12 touchdown receptions lead the league. While his yards per catch have dipped from his incredible 2014 campaign, he has otherwise basically picked up right where he left off from that season. For owners who still have something left to play for in Week 17, Nelson is an elite WR1 play against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson went over 100 yards for the second time in three games, and third time in the past six outings. He has found the end zone seven times in the past eight games, and has 91 or more yards in six of the past eight outings. He has re-emerged as a WR1 in all fantasy leagues after a devastating knee injury in 2015.

Tue, 15 Nov 2016 15:08:54 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson leads the NFL in receptions (11) and receiving touchdowns (7) in the red zone this season.

Fantasy Tip: It's just another reason to love owning Nelson in fantasy, being regularly depended on as much as anyone when his top-flight offense is inside the red zone. Nelson has also been getting more comfortable as the season has progressed, which was especially evident in Green Bay's most recent affair. In Week 10, the 31-year-old registered season highs in targets (18), receptions (12) and receiving yards (126) opposite the Titans.

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson racked up four receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He was targeted nine times.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson bounced back nicely after disappearing last weekend for fantasy owners. He remains a must-start fantasy option heading into Week 9 against a porous Indianapolis Colts pass defense.

Packers | Jordy Nelson limited to one catch

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 21:38:56 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson finished with one catch for nine yards on four targets in Week 7 against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson was targeted on a couple of patented deep balls off play-action, but a four-target effort on a night in which Aaron Rodgers attempted 56 passes is definitely cause for concern for his owners. The touchdowns that carried Nelson's value through the first four weeks of the season have dried up, and he has only 10 catches for 115 yards on 24 targets over the last three games. He's likely to draw shadow coverage in Week 8 from Atlanta Falcons top corner Desmond Trufant, which could mean he will turn in another disappointing effort next week.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 22:59:14 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson racked up five receptions for 66 yards in the Week 6 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He was targeted seven times.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson has been up and down this season in terms of yardage, but Sunday's game marked the first game in five tries he hasn't found the end zone. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 7 against the Chicago Bears Thursday night.

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson said he is satisfied with the progress he has made in his recovery from knee surgery and is approaching his pre-injury form.

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson caught six passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the first half of the team's Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions.

Packers | Jordy Nelson wore down

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 07:20:25 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson admitted he had heavy legs in Week 1 in which he played 54 of the 64 offensive plays. He also said he didn't have to clear any mental hurdles during the course of the game, never overthinking the fact that he was playing on a surgically repaired knee.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson had six grabs for 32 yards and a score in Week 1, and it's normal for someone to miss a season and have conditioning to do. He's a high-end WR2 option in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Packers | No limits for Jordy Nelson

Mon, 05 Sep 2016 16:33:08 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) will not have any restrictions during the team's Week 1 game, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson did not play during the preseason but appears ready for a full workload against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He should be one of the main targets in the passing game and is a fine starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Packers | Jordy Nelson declares himself ready

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 20:53:07 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) said he is "ready to go" for Week 1 during an interview Thursday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson missed all of last season and didn't appear in the preseason, and while the 31-year-old offers WR1 potential as Aaron Rodgers' top target, be careful not to reach for him before the third round. There is no guarantee he will return to his 2014 form.

Packers | Jordy Nelson practices in full

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:53:49 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) fully participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29. Nelson said he does not expect to play in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson should be ready for the start of the regular season and will be a main part of the team's passing game. He can be a No. 1 wide receiver in all fantasy leagues and likely will be selected in the first two or three rounds of drafts.

Packers | Jordy Nelson remains on limited duty

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 18:57:41 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson worked with QB Aaron Rodgers in practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, but Nelson was once again held out of competitive, 11-on-11 periods. He might not play in any preseason games, and he and Rodgers might only have a handful of practices together before the Week 1 opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, Rodgers believes it will be enough. "Because I know exactly where he's going to be," Rodgers said. "That's the beauty of us playing together for a long time."

Fantasy Tip: Nelson is being held out to preserve him and not test his injury too much before the games count for real. He is expected to be 100 percent for the regular season and fantasy owners can depend upon him as a WR1 in most formats. However, with a player coming off a major injury it's a good idea to load up with plenty of depth at the position in case there are setbacks.

Packers | No brace for Jordy Nelson

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 15:27:49 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) was not wearing a brace on his surgically repaired knee during practice Monday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson appears to be on track for the start of the regular season and likely will be a big part of the passing game in 2016. Owners in most leagues should consider Nelson as a low-end No. 1 receiver that likely will selected in one of the first few rounds of drafts.

Packers | Jordy Nelson to do drills

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 09:35:32 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) will do individual drills Monday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: The question about Nelson is he's 31 and coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He's a low-end WR1 in fantasy that could return to fantasy dominance despite his age.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson to do work

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 11:24:32 -0700

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Jordy Nelson (knee) will work one-on-one as much as they can in practice Monday, Aug. 22, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. It will be Nelson's first practice of the offseason and he will be limited to individual drills. It is still unclear whether or not Nelson will play this preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Finally, Nelson is practicing. He has some catching up to do, but he's already familiar with the offense and should be focused on getting to full health before Week 1. Even coming off a serious injury, Nelson is a fringe WR1 with optimal value in standard formats.

Packers | Jordy Nelson does warm-ups in full pads

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 17:39:20 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) went through pregame warm-ups in full pads prior to the team's preseason contest Thursday, August 18, versus the Oakland Raiders. He participated in individual position drills, even receiving passes against defensive backs. It was his first time wearing pads on a football field since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the second preseason game last year.

Fantasy Tip: This is very encouraging news for the star receiver, as it should ensure that he's ready to go for Week 1. As long as that's the case, Nelson can be drafted early on as a WR1, with potential to do big things in 2016. In his last season two years ago, the 31-year-old hauled in career highs of 98 receptions for 1,519 yards to go with 13 touchdowns.

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 19:15:12 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) will be held out of the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 18, against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson is expected to be ready for the regular season and he will be a bona fide WR1 in all fantasy formats if he can return to his pre-injury form. So far there is no reason to believe he won't be 100 percent by Week 1.

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 15:10:37 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) passed his physical and was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, Aug. 17, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson probably will be eased back into practice but appears to be on track for the start of the regular season. He will be one of the main targets in the passing game this season for the Packers and should be a No. 1 wide receiver for most owners.

Packers | Jordy Nelson might return soon

Sun, 07 Aug 2016 18:40:24 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) might return from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list next week, QB Aaron Rodgers said Sunday, Aug. 7. Previously there had been no confirmation from the team's management on a timetable for Nelson's return.

Fantasy Tip: If Nelson is 100 percent healthy for the regular season opener he is a top-notch WR1 in all fantasy leagues, and his inclusion in the lineup also helps inch up the value of Aaron Rodgers as the gunslinger will benefit from a full arsenal.

Packers | Jordy Nelson tweaked other knee

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 10:28:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) said he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list because he tweaked his other knee, and not his knee that required season-ending surgery last year. Nelson added Week 1 is not in jeopardy, but he does not know when he will be ready to practice during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: On the surface, this sounds like a positive, but if Nelson is limited during training camp because both knees aren't 100%, it's a concern. Over the long haul, Nelson projects to finish as a No. 1 fantasy wide receiver, but he might not be the safest option in the first two rounds of drafts, either. The upside and floor are both there, but it's likely ill-advised to expect a 2014 output from the 31-year-old veteran. This is a situation to monitor over the coming weeks.

Packers | Jordy Nelson on PUP

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 08:39:53 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 26. Head coach Mike McCarthy said there are no long-term concerns with Nelson, and he's likely to be activated at some point in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Now 31, questions linger if he can return to the 98-1,519-13 monster he was in 2014. He's still in the WR1 category, but there are a few players with more upside and stability.

Packers | Some Packers may not practice

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 11:19:27 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) and TE Jared Cook (foot) and others may initially be held out of training camp practices.

Fantasy Tip: It would behoove the Packers to take it easy with Nelson, who is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament. If Nelson doesn't suffer any setbacks, though, he's primed for another WR1 season. Meanwhile, it's still unclear if Cook will be starting at tight end for Green Bay. Richard Rodgers could take that spot, but neither should be pursued as a fantasy starter.

Packers | Jordy Nelson ahead of schedule

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 20:41:20 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) appears to be ahead of the curve in his rehabilitation, and Nelson said he would have been able to play in the Super Bowl last year had the Packers qualified.

Fantasy Tip: Any player coming off a major knee injury carries some risk, but Nelson has too much upside as Aaron Rodgers' go-to weapon to slip past the second round.

Packers | Jordy Nelson unclear for start of camp

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 20:21:43 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) said in June that he was ready, but it remains to be seen whether head coach Mike McCarthy and team doctors will give Nelson the green light when training camp opens July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson is on the other side of 30 and making his way back from a major injury, so there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Nelson. Pre-injury he was a Top 10 fantasy option, and his Average Draft Position (ADP) has been in the middle of the second round in most formats. But there is a lot of risk, so plan to have plenty of depth on hand.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers, others excused

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 09:23:25 -0700

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and other select veterans have been excused from mandatory minicamp this week by head coach Mike McCarthy. WRs Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson were also included in that group. "The approach is different than the past," McCarthy said. "So, it's obviously tailored toward the younger players." QB Brett Hundley will get most of the work with what is left of the No. 1 offense.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers are playing in the Hall of Fame Game this preseason, so their training camp will begin a week earlier in July than it did a year ago. McCarthy wants to make sure his veterans are well rested. Rodgers remains an elite fantasy QB worth taking in the early rounds, especially since he'll have a healthy Nelson to throw to in 2016.
