New York Jets RB Chris Johnson is impressing the defense he practices against every day. "Oh yeah, he still has it," linebacker David Harris said. "We noticed it the first day when we were in Cortland. He's still the fastest guy on the field. He's still got a lot of juice in those legs."
Fantasy Tip: Couple this news with his strong showing in preseason games, and Johnson should be considered an RB2 option on draft day.
Sat, 16 Aug 2014 19:57:32 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson had 10 carries for 63 yards during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson will likely never be the 2,000-yard back of old, but a performance like this is a reminder that he still has some burst left in the tank. The Jets want to run the ball on offense, and Johnson should have no problem producing like a RB2 if he stays healthy.
Mon, 11 Aug 2014 14:39:00 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 11, because he was given the day off.
Mon, 11 Aug 2014 08:01:07 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a solid RB2 with an uptick in PPR leagues.
Fri, 08 Aug 2014 09:28:51 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson looked rusty in his debut with the team against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Aug. 7. RB Chris Ivory (rib) was injured in the game and RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) is still nursing an injury, so Johnson was the team's lone healthy back for this game. Johnson dropped a pass on a third down and lacked burst while running, rushing for just two yards and a touchdown on four carries.
Fantasy Tip: Cimini said there's no reason to be alarmed, and he's right. It's just the first preseason game. Not much was gleaned from this game with Ivory and Powell sitting out. Johnson is the most experienced of the three, and Ivory has had problems staying healthy, so CJ2K will likely be the most valuable of this three-headed monster on your draft day.
Wed, 06 Aug 2014 11:50:17 -0700
New York Jets RBs Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will all receive playing time this season, and the team likely will use a running back-by-committee approach, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said there is a chance the team uses the hot hand during games.
Fantasy Tip: Committees are not great news for fantasy owners, but the team wants to use all three in their running game. Johnson probably will have the most value entering the season because of his experience. Johnson's spot in starting lineups will depend on the matchup each week. Ivory and Powell likely will be later-round options as well as handcuffs for Johnson.
Sat, 02 Aug 2014 19:16:26 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) said he was pleased with how his surgically repaired knee felt during his first full contact practice Saturday, Aug. 2.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:33:06 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) said he feels good now that he's been able to move laterally in practice.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson seems to be progressing nicely and remains a solid RB2 option in all scoring formats, even with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell sharing time.
Sun, 27 Jul 2014 18:43:20 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) fully participated in practice Sunday, July 27. It appears Johnson will be limited or get the day off every third practice.
Sat, 26 Jul 2014 12:05:54 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) was not a part of team drills Saturday, July 26.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson will probably sit here and there throughout training camp as a precautionary measure for his surgically repaired knee. He's still the Jets' top running back option and should be drafted as a low-end RB2.
Fri, 25 Jul 2014 07:05:05 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) returned to practice Friday, July 25.
Fantasy Tip: Ivory figures to be in the mix with Chris Johnson, but he is relegated to RB4 status.
Fri, 25 Jul 2014 05:48:28 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson was put in motion and flexed out wide a lot in practice Thursday, July 24.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a solid RB2, but it sounds like he'll receive a boost in PPR leagues with the team's willingness to get him involved in the passing game.
Thu, 24 Jul 2014 13:33:14 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) said he feels good and didn't feel any pain after his first full-go since last season.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been one of the most consistent fantasy running backs over the past several years. His stock has declined since his move to New York, however, with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell also in the mix. He's still a solid RB2 candidate.
Wed, 23 Jul 2014 14:04:00 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) will not be limited at the start of training camp, and he was "flying" during his conditioning test, according to head coach Rex Ryan.
Fantasy Tip: That is good news for Johnson's odds of living up to an RB2 billing.
Sun, 06 Jul 2014 07:10:39 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson supported Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel, saying he should be his own man when it comes to off the field activities. "Be your own man," Johnson said. "Do what you got to do. It's the offseason. That's when you get time to do whatever you want to do and live your life. I'm pretty sure once the season gets here, he'll be all right. He's going to focus in on football. But this is the time now to where he'll be able to hang out and do some of the things you want to do. Because once the season gets here, you really have no life. It's just football and football."
Wed, 02 Jul 2014 10:04:37 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson said Tuesday, July 1, that he's confident he'll be the team's lead back this year and won't be too involved in a timeshare with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. "Once the season starts and once we're playing and I'm doing my thing, I'm pretty sure if I'm making plays they're going to want to keep handing the ball off to me," Johnson said. "If they want me to continue making plays, I'm pretty sure I can't do that if I'm on the sideline." Johnson said he's "pretty much cleared" by Dr. James Andrews after coming off offseason knee surgery, and he said he's close to 100 percent health.
Fantasy Tip: After Johnson's disappointing 2013 season, it's hard to envision him ever returning to his glory days running the football. The Jets will surely look to keep him fresh, but there is room for improvement if he can prove he deserves lead-back touches; the Jets said they'll go with a hot hand if one stands out. For now, consider Johnson a risky RB3 with upside for a bit more.
Thu, 26 Jun 2014 05:44:11 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's touches will be limited to keep him fresh, according to Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn. "He's got some miles on him," Lynn said. "So we're going to have to be strategic in how we use him, and when we use him, to keep him fresh so that he can be the explosive guy that I know that he can be." Johnson will be in a committee with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.
Fantasy Tip: That's quite a different stance than the one reported a couple weeks ago that they were going to give him the ball as much as possible. Johnson is a decent receiver and has more value in PPR leagues as a RB2. Ivory and Powell are depth fantasy backs that could figure in more in good matchups.
Thu, 19 Jun 2014 11:56:33 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he is pretty optimistic RB Chris Johnson (knee) will be ready to go for training camp, although Johnson could be on a pitch count.
Wed, 18 Jun 2014 14:22:16 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson is excited to run behind a veteran offensive line, and believes he can be a 2,000-yard back in 2014. "I don't feel like I'm getting older or I lost a step. I still feel good. I still feel explosive, I just know the type of player I am, I'd never sell myself short," Johnson said, Wednesday, June 18.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson's optimism and confidence in his offensive line is great, but he hasn't hit 1,500 combined yards since 2010, which should keep your fantasy expectations in check. Continue to value Johnson as a RB3 target with upside based on how much they use him in tandem with Chris Ivory.
Wed, 18 Jun 2014 13:54:32 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) says he will be ready for training camp in July. Johnson has participated in individual workouts the past two days.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a RB3 with upside, who has additional value in PPR formats.
Tue, 17 Jun 2014 11:49:49 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said RB Chris Johnson (knee) will only work in individual drills and not in team drills during the team's minicamp this week.
Fantasy Tip: This appears to be the team continuing to be cautious with their new running back. The real test will come at the start of training camp. For now, it appears that everything is still on schedule.
Tue, 17 Jun 2014 06:42:17 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn essentially said the team plans to let RB Chris Johnson run the ball as much as possible. "He's definitely going to get the ball," Lynn said. "So, it's what he does with the ball… He can have as many yards as he wants."
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been a boom-or-bust pick the last couple of years, but he carries significantly less risk. He'll still be drafted as an RB2, but you can probably land him as an RB3 on occasion. He has something to prove, and if he proves it - he could be one of those risks that make pretenders contenders.
Mon, 16 Jun 2014 11:38:32 -0700
If New York Jets RB Chris Johnson can prove he's still an explosive, dynamic and productive running back, he could be in line for most of the workload, according to a source. The New York Jets' distribution of backfield touches hasn't been panned out yet. Running backs coach Anthony Lynn said Johnson is "definitely going to get the ball" and has plenty left in the tank.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been underrated ever since he landed in New York. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will take away some playing time, but Johnson is the Jets running back to own this season. As long as he stays healthy, which he has his whole career, he's a safe RB3 option, with RB2 potential if he does end up as the team's main running back.
Wed, 11 Jun 2014 10:38:48 -0700
The New York Jets are taking it slow with RB Chris Johnson. Head coach Rex Ryan said he doesn't expect much from him during minicamp.
Fantasy Tip: This isnít too much to worry about. Itís to be expected that the Jets would be gentle with their new running back. As long as Johnson doesnít suffer an injury, heís still a RB3/flex option in standard leagues, considering heíll be sharing playing time with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.
Sat, 07 Jun 2014 06:21:05 -0700
The New York Jets are not likely to cut back on the wild cat or read-option in 2014, in the opinion of Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. The team could use more of those formations to maximize the speed of RB Chris Johnson.
Thu, 22 May 2014 14:00:13 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's (knee) primary focus right now is getting healthy. He is not worrying about touches, but he is looking forward to game planning that will give him opportunities in space. Johnson is focusing on becoming a more patient runner, as opposed to trying to break a big run every play.
Fantasy Tip: Monitor Johnson's practice involvement during the offseason. Johnson is in a timeshare with Chris Ivory, where he should see the majority of carries, and is the back better suited for passing downs. Johnson's fantasy value will be heavily dependent on yardage and receptions, making him a more appealing PPR option. At best, Johnson is a low-end No. 2 running back.

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) expects to be held out of OTAs until he is 100 percent healthy. Currently, Johnson is rehabbing and this week started straight-ahead running.

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:29:09 -0700
The New York Jets signed RB Chris Johnson (Titans) to a two-year deal Wednesday, April 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has lost a lot in recent seasons, and he's, at best, a weak RB3 for your fantasy squad. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will spell Johnson frequently, and Ivory figures to be the short-yardage, goal-line back. With Marty Mornhinweg as the offensive coordinator, Johnson could be used frequently out of the backfield as a pass catcher, making him more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Wed, 09 Apr 2014 07:53:47 -0700
The Denver Post's Mike Klis speculates the Denver Broncos aren't a fit for free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Titans). Klis doesn't think Johnson will accept a No. 2 role, and Denver probably won't give him the money he'll demand.
Fantasy Tip: Denver is probably better off with Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman to try building for the long term, or finding a cheaper complement to Ball. Johnson may have to settle for tandem work, which wouldn't make him anything more than a matchup-fueled RB2 in 2014 fantasy leagues.
