The Falcons want to retain Ryan for the long term and he wants to stay in Atlanta. The parameters are in place for a potential Ryan extension after Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco both inked new deals.

Baltimore Raven's QB Joe Flacco's new contract is a comparable for Ryan's next deal, according to Andrew Brandt of ESPN. "It's yet another comparable and data point for Matt Ryan," said Andrew Brandt, ESPN's NFL business analyst and former chief negotiator for the Green Bay Packers. "The gold standard was Drew Brees, at least on the average at $20 million (per season). Now, you have $20.1 million. It's certainly a place they could look at as the freshest data point."
