The Associated Press reports former NFL QB Joe Hamilton was charged with marijuana possession, having an open bottle of beer in his vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run Tuesday, May 6. Hamilton was hired less than a week ago to be Georgia Tech's assistant director of player personnel. Hamilton was pulled over because his vehicle matched the description of a vehicle involved in an alleged hit-and-run. Hamilton admitted he hit another car from behind, according to the police report. Hamilton recorded blood-alcohol contents of 0.193 and 0.199 in two tests, according to the police report.

The Associated Press reports Orlando Predators QB Joe Hamilton completed 23-of-35 passes for 291 yards and six touchdowns in Arena Bowl XX Sunday, June 11, but it was not enough as the Chicago Rush defeated the Predators 69-61. Hamilton failed in his bid to become the first quarterback to earn an Arena League championship and a Super Bowl ring.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports former NFL QB Joe Hamilton, now playing for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, is looking to become the only quarterback to claim a Super Bowl and an Arena Bowl ring. His Predators are playing the Chicago Rush in Arena Bowl XX Sunday afternoon, June 11, in Las Vegas. He is under no illusion that a big game on Sunday and a championship notation on his professional resume might earn him an invitation to an NFL training camp. If the phone rings, he would listen, but he's not going to sit at home and wait for the call.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden told Buccaneers.com his team's depth chart at QB will be set in training camp. QB Brad Johnson heads to camp as the No. 1 guy, but QBs Shaun King and Rob Johnson will battle hard for the No. 2 slot. Gruden also has not ruled out adding another live arm for training camp. "We might pick up another quarterback," he conceded. "Tom Tupa will work into our rotation. He won't take a lot of reps, but he will work. He'll get familiar with the nomenclature of our system, ball handling, things of that nature. With the absence of Joe Hamilton, there is a chance that we pick up another quarterback. But we are looking into that right now."

The Tampa Tribune reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team doctors confirmed QB Joe Hamilton (torn ACL) will miss the entire 2002 season. With the loss of Hamilton, coach Jon Gruden said the team will be looking for a fourth arm to help out during training camp, which opens near Orlando on June 28. "We're very disappointed and concerned about the health of Joe Hamilton," Gruden said. "He's a great guy and was really doing a good job over there (NFL Europe)."

Hamilton had earlier decided to forego NFL Europe to stay in Tampa to work with new coach Jon Gruden. "There is no substitute for playing time," Hamilton said. Chris Mortensen reports for ESPN the contract signed by QB Rob Johnson with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was actually a one-year deal valued at $650,000 with a $25,000 signing bonus. He will compete with QBs Brad Johnson, Shaun King and Joe Hamilton for the Bucs' starting job. The Bucs will reportedly be open to trading anybody who does not win the battle.

Buccaneers No. 4 QB Joe Hamilton's 6-yard TD pass to RB Aaron Stecker gave Tampa Bay a 14-10 lead with 1:09 remaining. Bucs QB Brad Johnson was 2-of-4 for 18 yards in limited action. He was also sacked three times. Dolphins QB Ray Lucas played just over two quarters after replacing Jay Fiedler and was 5-of-9 for 57 yards. Fielder was 4-of-6 for 75 yards. Bucs QB Ryan Leaf was 1-for-4 for 4 yards with an interception. Dolphins PK Olindo Mare shanked a 19-yard FG early in the game.
