Chiefs | Jamaal Charles placed on PUP

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 08:45:15 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is unlikely to play a lot in the preseason, but he's expected to be ready for the opener. The team intends to use him heavily if he's healthy and productive. He remains a solid RB1.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't be limited

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 08:22:28 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (knee) workload won't be limited if he's healthy and returns to the player he was before his knee injury, according to beat writer Adam Teicher.

Fantasy Tip: Charles turns 30 in December, and there will be some concern whether he can return to that elite level. That also means he could come at a slight discount in drafts. Charles remains a solid RB1.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware considered the backup

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 15:14:27 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is viewed as the backup running back behind RB Jamaal Charles, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher. Teicher did say that Ware and RB Charcandrick West would both play if Charles was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Ware and West proved their worth last season after Charles went down. Their fantasy value is limited as long as Charles is healthy, though. Both Ware and West are low-end RB4 to high-end RB5 considerations in the Chiefs' backfield.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will not be rushed

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 16:38:05 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was able to participate in some drills during minicamp, but head coach Andy Reid said the team will not rush Charles back to the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Charles probably will not receive a lot of playing time during preseason because the team wants him to be ready for the regular season. He should be a first-round pick in fantasy drafts if he is healthy because he produces in the running and passing game.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could return soon

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 12:37:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) might participate in team drills during minicamp nextw eek, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs will probably take it easy with Charles before the regular season starts. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he's still worth RB1 consideration, with added value in PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't work until camp

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 22:53:57 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) made an appearance at practice Wednesday, June 1, wearing a jersey and shorts without a helmet. However, he did not practice, and he is not expected to participate in practice until training begins in July, at the earliest.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is making his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in October, and there is no guarantee he'll be back to 100 percent by the start of the regular season. While Adrian Peterson came back and was better than ever after a torn ACL, it's a tough injury to make it back from, especially for a running back who relies on sudden turns and quick cuts. When healthy he is obviously a top-notch fantasy talent, but there is a ton of risk involved with Charles this season.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited in OTAs

Thu, 19 May 2016 10:24:44 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be limited in organized team activities, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is expected to be ready well in advance of the season. It's fair to expect his workload to be tapered with Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware also proven runners. At 29, it's reaching to expect another 1,500-yard rushing season. However, he should remain a steady RB1 with West a low-end RB3 and Ware an RB5 flyer.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has been running

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 10:43:57 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been running but isn't cutting in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. "I'll be ready," Charles said of being back out there for training camp. "I can't wait."

Fantasy Tip: Charles will be 30 this December, and his injury history is extensive at this point. He'll surely be rested more often after Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware were effective in Charles' absence last year. But when healthy, Charles still is one of the more productive backs in the NFL, and he can return to RB1 status, especially in PPR leagues.

Chiefs | No OTAs for Jamaal Charles

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:25:56 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said he probably won't participate in organized team activities, but he should be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs definitely don't want to overwork Charles this offseason, especially coming off a serious knee injury. If Charles can fully recover and avoid suffering any setbacks, he should be drafted as a RB1 again in 2016.

Dolphins | Knile Davis among Dolphins' pursuit

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 11:47:35 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis is a player the Miami Dolphins have expressed interest in. Davis is believed to be on the trade block. The Dolphins also expressed interest in RBs Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, but those talks appeared to go nowhere.

Fantasy Tip: Davis could be an RB3 if he landed in a prominent situation like Miami.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will be ready

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 06:16:49 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been working out at the team's facility and will be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is 29 and coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The position doesn't have as many slam dunks as it used to, so it's feasible to consider him just under the elite tier.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles not going anywhere

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 10:20:53 -0800

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not be cut, according to general manager John Dorsey. "He will be an important piece of this team moving forward," Dorsey said. Dorsey also said Charles is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a knee injury.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has an injury prone label on his head, but when he's healthy he's arguably one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL. He'll likely slip in fantasy drafts this fall because of another serious injury, but that means he could be had at a bargain as an RB1, especially in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likely to stay

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 11:07:56 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee), who is apparently ahead in his rehab from a knee injury, is likely to remain with the Chiefs in 2016, according to general manager John Dorsey. "Well, as I look at it right now, Jamaal … I think he may be ahead of schedule in terms of his rehabilitation," Dorsey said. "The guy is an extremely talented player. Love him to death. Love how dirty-tough he is. Yeah, he's a Chief." The Chiefs could save around $5.3 million by releasing Charles.

Fantasy Tip: Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware more than picked up the slack after Charles' injury last year, which would lead some to believe they can do it again without him. But Charles is an elite running back talent and is even more valuable in PPR leagues. However, he's injury prone, which may cause him to slide into the second round in drafts this year.

Chiefs | Decision time on Jamaal Charles

Sat, 23 Jan 2016 15:53:44 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was hurt and then the team went on average 135.9 yards - fifth in the league - in 11 regular season games with RBs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware. He has a $2 million report-to-training camp bonus due in July, and he could be asked to take a pay cut and/or relinquish that bonus to return while earning it back through incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has been a productive back in this league, but he has had multiple injuries to his anterior cruciate ligament and he is getting up there in age. Fantasy owners should be preparing for a steep decline going forward.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles ahead of schedule?

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 19:15:55 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) may be ahead of schedule as he rehabs from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to general manager John Dorsey.

Fantasy Tip: Charles' rehab is apparently going well, and there is a good chance he is ready for the start of the 2016 season. Despite the injury risk, Charles has too much upside as a runner and a pass-catcher to slip beyond the first couple of rounds of fantasy drafts.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will be back

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 12:32:29 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be back for the start of the regular season this year, according to general manager John Dorsey. "The guy is an extremely talented player," Dorsey said. "I love him to death, love how dirty tough he is. Yeah, he's a Chief." Charles missed all but five games in 2015 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is one of the all-around best running backs in the league still, but he's had serious issues with staying healthy for a full season. For that reason his draft value will fall a bit, but he's definitely still worthy of RB1 status, especially in point-per-reception leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles update

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 07:26:39 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) recently had a stem-cell procedure on his right knee recently to assist with the recovery of his torn right anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Charles turns 29 next month, and he'll have some questions entering the 2016 season. It's hard to see him falling out of the first round of drafts next year.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West solid in relief

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 15:14:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West was strong in place of RB Jamaal Charles (knee) on Sunday, Oct. 25. West ran for 110 yards on 22 carries and scored one touchdown in a 23-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: West ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) will be a decent replacement for Charles, but keep an eye on how he does in another game so you have a decent sample size to choose from.

Chiefs | KC eager to see Charcandrick West

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 15:35:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West has the team eager to see what he can do in Week 6. "Quietly, they kind of like West," ESPN.com's Adam Teicher said. "The term has been used to me, 'a poor man's Jamaal Charles.' They think there are a lot of similarities in how they go about business. Now, he's not as good as Charles, don't mistake that. But they're kind of eager to see what he can do." Teicher said RB Knile Davis could get more of the goal-line opportunities because he's the bigger back. But the Chiefs might prefer West in every other situation since he's a much better pass-catcher, a more versatile runner and likely at least as good in pass protection. Teicher doesn't expect any running back to carry the load the way Charles did. But if one does emerge in that role down the road, West has a better chance than Davis.

Fantasy Tip: West ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) faces the Minnesota Vikings, who are in the middle of the pack as far as defending the running back position. West has some upside at a midrange price on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles goes to IR

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 13:42:24 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Oct. 13. Charles tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Week 5 and will miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Charcandrick West ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is a top waiver wire pickup this week, but Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas will also be in the mix. West has a good matchup against the Minnesota Vikings this week and makes for a solid value play on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Torn ACL for Jamaal Charles

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 14:37:31 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (knee) MRI confirmed a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to a source. Charles will miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Charcandrick West, Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas will take over in the Kansas City backfield. West will probably be the starter, but Davis and Thomas will also be involved. West is definitely worth claiming if he is available in fantasy leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles to undergo MRI exam Monday

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 13:26:25 -0700

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on his right knee Monday, Oct. 12. Head coach Andy Reid said during his press conference that preliminary reports that he received suggested that Charles had a torn ACL.

Fantasy Tip: There is a possibility that Charles ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) could miss the rest of the season if the MRI exam yields similar results. Continue to check back frequently for official updates on his status. Charcandrick West ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) had 31 rushing yards on seven carries against the Bears in Week 5 and appears poised to become the Chiefs' No. 1 back going forward. He should be grabbed in all seasonal formats if he is still available on the waiver wire. Knile Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could see increased playing time as well but is unlikely to see as many carries as West.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles may have torn ACL

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 12:46:14 -0700

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) may have suffered a torn ACL during Week 5's game against the Chicago Bears based on initial tests, according to a source with knowledge of the injury. The team will receive more information after he undergoes an MRI exam. Charles exited the game during the third quarter after suffering a non-contact injury to his right knee and had to be helped off the field by two trainers.

Fantasy Tip: If Charles ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) does indeed have a torn ACL, he will be sidelined for an extended period of time. Charcandrick West ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is receiving the bulk of the carries for Kansas City in his absence, with Knile Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) also in line to receive increased playing time. Keep checking back for further updates on Charles' status.

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 12:13:46 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not return to Week 5's game against the Chicago Bears after suffering a non-contact injury during the third quarter. Charles' right knee appeared to buckle when he was cutting and he was helped off the field by two trainers.

Fantasy Tip: Check back regularly for updates on Charles' ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) condition. In the meantime, the Chiefs will rely on Charcandrick West ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Knile Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) at running back, with West expected to see most of the carries.

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 11:57:55 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (undisclosed) was helped off the field after suffering a possible knee injury during the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation because it looked like Charles suffered a potentially serious injury. Charcandrick West and Knile Davis likely would be more involved in the running game if Charles is out for an extended period of time.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles piles up yards

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 18:45:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had 11 carries for 75 yards and six catches for 70 yards in a 36-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Charles' ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) abilities as a runner and pass catcher makes him a force regardless of how a game is playing out. He is one of the safest options to pay up for at FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles scores three TDs

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 21:27:21 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles rushed 11 times for 49 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers, and he added five receptions for 33 yards on seven targets.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) didn't pile up the yardage, but those touchdowns were certainly nice. He remains a must-start in FantasyScore regardless of the price level.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles running well

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 10:47:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has averaged 5.47 yards per carry in his career, which is the highest average among running backs that have at least 750 carries in their career.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) has been a very productive player over the last several seasons and is off to a solid start in 2015 with 182 rushing yards. Charles is a valuable fantasy player because of his ability to produce in the running and passing game. He has been targeted 13 times in the passing game and has caught nine passes with 48 yards and a touchdown. Charles should be a weekly starting option for owners.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles runs wild, fumbles twice

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 21:30:35 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had 125 yards rushing, a touchdown and two fumbles on 21 carries and had four catches for two yards in a 31-24 loss to the Denver Broncos Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: His second fumble basically cost the Chiefs the game, but Charles ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) still finished with a strong line. He is on the short list of players that deserve every-week consideration at FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles didn't do much against DEN

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 14:55:04 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles ran for only 71 yards on 17 carries against the Denver Broncos last season. In the second game he faced Denver, he injured his ankle and had only two carries for four yards.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos defense is one to watch in 2015, and the Chiefs certainly have their work cut out for them Thursday night. We'd expect more production out of Charles ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) this year against Denver, but he could yet again be a bust at his high price on FantasyScore in Week 2 against a stout defense.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited Friday

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 17:31:43 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles sat out most of the contact drills during practice Friday, Aug. 7, because the team wants to keep him fresh.

Fantasy Tip: Charles will see a lot of touches this season, so the team likely will limit his work during training camp and the preseason. Charles should be one of the first players selected in drafts this season since he will help in the running and passing game.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles used in passing game

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 17:27:00 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was emphasized in the screen game during practice Saturday, Aug. 1, and in one drill, nine straight passes were thrown to running backs.

Fantasy Tip: Charles finished with just 291 receiving yards last year, which is surprisingly low for a player with so much explosiveness and versatility. It sounds like the Chiefs are making it a point to put the ball in Charles' hands as much as possible, and he should be considered a RB1 in all formats for 2015 with top five upside at the position.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles feeling young again

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 12:01:51 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles said he's feeling healthy, is eating right and doing yoga. "I'm doing everything I am supposed to do to keep my body up at my age. Charles added that he feels like he's 20 or 21 years old again.

Fantasy Tip: A refreshed Jamaal Charles is a dangerous Jamaal Charles. Even a hampered Charles from last year was dangerous. If he can stay healthy and produce the way he's produced the last few seasons, he'll be in the top-five running back conversation again in 2015.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles the total package

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 17:15:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has ranked in the top three in total touchdowns in each of the last two seasons, recording a league-high 19 in 2013 and 14 last year.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has piled up 33 scores in 30 games over the past two seasons. He is a high-end RB1 in any format, and he should be in the conversation for the best back in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles taking week off

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 13:54:58 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will be taking a week off from football now that minicamp is over. Following the hiatus, Charles will begin an intense workout regimen. Charles said he would try to come back early and work with the Chief's strength and conditioning coach to get more in shape and back in the groove.

Fantasy Tip: Charles dealt with his fair share of injuries last year, but still managed to only miss one game. Over the past five seasons in which Charles has played in at least 15 games, he has averaged 1,680.2 total yards and 11 total touchdowns. He's a top-five fantasy running back when healthy.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles plans on playing a while

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 16:08:19 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will turn 29 by the end of the 2015 season, but he said he has no plans on slowing down and wants to play another six years. "(The game) has changed," Charles said. "They've got all kinds of technology now, all kinds of medicine people have come up with to stay healthy."

Fantasy Tip: Charles battled injuries last year, but he still managed more than 1,300 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns. The Chiefs added Jeremy Maclin to help stretch the field a bit this year, and Charles should still produce like a RB1 as the focal point of the ground game.

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 19:47:38 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon has been compared to Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles by multiple teammates because of his size, speed and patience.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles wants team to address OL

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 04:23:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles wants the team to address the offensive line situation in the upcoming NFL Draft. Charles told media "it was challenging last year playing with guys... some got hurt, some got suspended. So it was hard playing. I never knew how crucial it was to my career that I needed linemen."

Fantasy Tip: If you don't have a solid offensive line, it's hard to run the ball. Pure and simple. Charles' production slipped backwards somewhat because the Chiefs' offensive line was not up to snuff. Of course, that was just one reason, as there were injuries, but it's enough to make Charles a low RB1 or an RB2 on most fantasy boards.

Sun, 28 Dec 2014 09:15:18 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle, hamstring) is active for the team's Week 17 game.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle, hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 26, and is listed as questionable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Charles probably has a good chance to play in Week 17 since he was able to do something during practice this week, but owners should check the injury report before deciding on their lineup. Charles could be a starting option for owners this week on FantasyScore.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle, hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 25. The Chiefs did not practice Thursday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has held in check in Week 16 but did help out in the passing game. Charles should continue to produce in the running and passing game, which makes him a solid No. 1 or No. 2 running back for owners on FantasyScore.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($5,555) is expected to play against the San Diego Chargers. He's likely to be a big part of their offensive game plan yet again, especially if Dwayne Bowe (shoulder) can't play. Charles recorded 95 yards and a TD on a season-high 22 carries against the Chargers earlier this year. He's a fine FantasyScore play this weekend.

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 15:37:37 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($7,500) appears to be in good shape to play in Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he's limping to the finish line, and he shared work with Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas last week. If Charles continues to share more of the workload, it may be tough for him to capitalize on his FantasyScore price.
