Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited again

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 17:48:34 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Charles may have a chance to play in Week 4 but more will be known about his status later in the week. He probably would be eased back into the offense, which will make him a risky option for owners. Owners may want to see Charles play in a game before using him in their lineups.

Chiefs | KC remaining cautious with Jamaal Charles

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 11:00:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) appears to have a decent chance to make his season debut in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Andy Reid admitted the team is being "very cautious" in regards to Charles.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware is making the cautious approach look like the right approach thus far, although Week 3 marked the first time he failed to top 100 total yards despite receiving a season-high 21 touches. The Chiefs go on their bye in Week 5, so a case could be made to sit Charles out one more game. Either way, Charles appears headed for a timeshare with Ware - at least initially - once he makes his return.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't play Sunday

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 06:56:14 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not play in Week 3's game against the New York Jets, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a precautionary measure for Charles, who has yet to suit up for a regular-season game this year but is likely to see action versus the Pittsburgh Steelers next week. RB Spencer Ware will once again serve as the team's lead back and should be viewed as an RB2 or flex option in most fantasy formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles doubtful for Week 3

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 12:55:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the New York Jets. While most of his work in practice this week was on the scout team, head coach Andy Reid said Charles saw a bit of first-team work as well.

Fantasy Tip: Charles appears primed for a Week 4 debut versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, although it should be noted the Chiefs have a Week 5 bye. Either way, he's almost certain to share backfield duties with Spencer Ware for at least a few weeks and possibly the remainder of the season when he returns. Kansas City's offense can support two backs in fantasy, although both will likely be relegated to RB2 status if they split work.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles still limited Thursday

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 15:53:18 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was a limited participant in practice for the second day in a row Thursday, September 22.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Andy Reid has already indicated that it's more likely than not that Charles will sit out another week. Even if he does manage to suit up, he would be shaping up as a risky play at best. As a result, look for Spencer Ware to continue to settle in as a fine RB2 in Kansas City's upcoming tilt with the Jets.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likely to sit again

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 22:58:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is likely to sit again in Week 3. Head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday, Sept. 21, that "another week is going to help him. We'll just see."

Fantasy Tip: Charles has been inactive for the first two games, as Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West. Fantasy owners should be patient, as it could be another week or two before Charles returns to game action, and a handful of games before he regains fantasy relevance.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles' Week 3 status uncertain

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 10:36:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) "looked better" in practice last week, but head coach Andy Reid was noncommittal when asked about his status for Week 3 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: The nightmare continues for owners who drafted Charles in the second or third round of drafts this summer hoping they were getting a discounted rate on a potential RB1 who could take over the backfield sometime before the end of September. The good news is that a return seems imminent. When he does make it back, he'll likely split backfield work with Spencer Ware.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles to miss another game

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 09:02:46 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 2 game.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware should receive a majority of the playing time at running back with Charcandrick West also seeing snaps. Ware should be a solid No. 2 running back in most leagues despite his toe injury, while West could be an attractive flex option.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could play next week

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 07:02:55 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is expected to make his season debut against the New York Jets in Week 3, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: RB Spencer Ware will once again serve as Kansas City's primary running back for Week 2's game against the Houston Texans. He had 70 rushing yards and 129 receiving yards in the season opener versus the San Diego Chargers and should be viewed as a solid RB2 option. Charles makes a risky fantasy option for Week 3 at this point because it is uncertain how many snaps he will see.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles tabbed doubtful for Week 2

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 12:06:16 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is considered doubtful to play in the team's Week 2 game Sunday, September 18, versus the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: He was also announced as doubtful for the season opener, which he ultimately did not suit up for, so this isn't exactly encouraging for his fantasy owners. If Charles has to sit again, Spencer Ware will carry the load and should be a solid RB2 after his impressive season debut last week. At home against the Charges, Ware ran for 70 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while also impressively adding 129 receiving yards on seven receptions.

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 15:33:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Charles' status for Week 2 is uncertain at this point, so owners should monitor his practice participation. Owners may want to wait another week or two before considering Charles as a starting option because he probably will receive limited touches.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will practice

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 10:14:43 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is practicing Wednesday, Sept. 14, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Charles isn't a lock to return for Week 2, so you'll want to keep a close eye on his status leading into the game against the Houston Texans Sunday, Sept. 18. Additionally, Charles is unlikely to return to a bell-cow role following Spencer Ware's showing in Week 1 (199 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown). Stay tuned for updates, but Charles owners will want to remain patient.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles could sit again

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 07:29:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) could sit again in Week 2 as he is the least healthy of the team's four running backs, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware had an 11-70-1 line on the ground, and he caught seven balls for 129 yards as well in Week 1. He'll have a tough matchup against the Houston Texans, but he could be a low-end RB1 option for Week 2. Charles owners are going to have to be patient as he may be a few weeks from returning to dependability in fantasy.

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 09:07:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware likely will be the starting running back for the Chiefs, but Charcandrick West will also receive playing time during the game. Ware could be considered a No. 2 in most fantasy leagues, while West should be a solid flex option for owners.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't play Sunday

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 08:03:10 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not play in Week 1's game against the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Sept. 11, according to a source. He had been listed as doubtful on the injury report.

Fantasy Tip: RB Spencer Ware will receive the bulk of the playing time Sunday and should be viewed as a viable starting option in all formats. RBs Charcandrick West and Knile Davis are also expected to see action but probably won't receive enough carries to warrant using in fantasy lineups.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles 'probably' won't play

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 12:02:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is considered doubtful for the team's season opener Sunday, September 11, and "probably" won't play, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has been limited in practice this week, and apparently, he hasn't shown enough to Reid that would indicate he's ready to make his return from a torn ACL. As long as he's out, Spencer Ware will be a hot commodity to monitor in Week 1, as he'll have potential to serve as a legitimate RB1 option across all formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles still limited

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 19:51:50 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) remained a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: If Charles does suit up, he isn't expected to see his regular workload. He should eventually provide RB1 production, but bench him in Week 1 if you have a quality backup.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 15:11:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is considered questionable at this point, but it is good for him to be on the field during practice. Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if he will play. Charles probably will not be the best option for owners because he likely would be limited if he is active.

Chiefs | Jamal Charles will practice

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 10:08:16 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will practice Wednesday, Sept. 7, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is a wildcard for Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers, as Reid already suggested Charles wasn't fully recovered from his knee surgery to repair his torn right anterior cruciate ligament. Spencer Ware projects to be the main weapon in the running game, and he's a solid option for Week 1, even if Charles suits up. Charles' fantasy value will be murky over the next few weeks.

Chiefs | Coach not optimistic about Jamaal Charles

Mon, 05 Sep 2016 17:23:18 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he believes it would be a stretch for RB Jamaal Charles (knee) to play in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware likely would start if Charles in not able to play, but Charcandrick West would also receive some playing time. Ware and West were successful when Charles was sidelined last season and will be solid fantasy options in Week 1. Ware probably would have more value and can be a No. 2 running back, While West could be a flex option.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles' status uncertain

Fri, 02 Sep 2016 13:24:40 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (knee) availability for Week 1 is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Andy Reid. Charles has not been ruled out, but Reid said Charles could sit out.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is working his way back from his knee injury, so owners should monitor his practice participation. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West would share carries in Week 1 if Charles is sidelined and could be fine starting options for owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles unlikely to start opener

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 05:35:02 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is unlikely to start the first game of the season, and if he plays, it won't be a big load, according to beat writer Adam Teicher.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West figure to split up the work against the San Diego Chargers, but Ware figures to see the majority based on what we've seen in camp. It might be time to move Charles down draft boards, but his talent should keep him a low-end RB1. Ware is a high-end RB3, and he has a lot of upside early on. West is an RB4 in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles not the starter yet

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 19:03:01 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) recently returned to practice after knee surgery, but he has yet to play in a preseason game. He is unlikely to play Thursday, Sept. 1, in the exhibition finale. He is considered behind schedule, and while there hasn't been a setback, he isn't confirmed as the full-time featured back, either. RB Spencer Ware has taken first-team reps for training camp and the preseason, with RB Charcandrick West also seeing first-team reps. "For Jamaal, it's (a matter of) getting trust in the leg," head coach Andy Reid said Tuesday, Aug. 30. "Every day he does a little bit more and a little bit more and his cuts are a little bit sharper. It's just a matter of time and we're OK there. We're OK with that."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners who took Charles in the first round of fantasy drafts are likely not OK with that, however. It sounds like there will be a timeshare, at least for the first few games, as the Chiefs ease Charles into a full-time role. Spencer Ware should be added right now in all fantasy leagues, as if he gets the hot hand he could see significant time, at least in the first few weeks.

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 07:08:37 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is unlikely to play in the third preseason game, according to head coach Andy Reid. Charles should practice more this week, however.

Fantasy Tip: The team is easing Charles in this preseason, and there's no reason to believe he'll be limited when the season begins. Charles is a midrange RB1 in fantasy.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) practiced in full Thursday, Aug. 18, for the first time. He won't play in the second preseason game, though.

Fantasy Tip: Charles appears to be progressing in his first week of practice. The team plans to use him as much as he can handle if he remains productive, and he's a midrange RB1 in fantasy.

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 09:02:37 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was limited Wednesday, Aug. 17, but he got through a larger workload than he did the previous day.

Fantasy Tip: The team plans to use Charles as much as he can handle if he's healthy and productive. He has plenty of talent behind him, though, and they can afford to take it slow with him in the early stages. Charles is in the midrange RB1 mix.

Fantasy Tip: The team has said they'll use Charles as much as he can handle if he's healthy and productive. He has plenty of talent behind him, though, and they can afford to take it slow with him in the early part of the season. Charles is still firmly in the RB1 mix.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware caps first drive with TD

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 14:59:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware got the start with RB Jamaal Charles (knee) still on the Physically Unable to Perform list and did not disappoint in the team's preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 13, running for 24 yards on five carries and converting on a 1-yard plunge early in the first quarter.

Fantasy Tip: Ware had the first two drives all to himself before giving way to Charcandrick West, reaffirming the former is in the lead at the moment to be considered Charles' handcuff. The LSU product may also have a bit of standalone value as Kansas City may opt to use him over Charles at the goal line. Ware is one of the better handcuffs available to owners this summer and should be a solid RB4 with significant upside.

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 13:25:37 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said he is hopeful that RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list but will still have several weeks to recover. Owners should monitor the situation during the preseason to see if he will be ready for Week 1. Charles should be considered a No. 1 running back if he is healthy.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't be limited

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 08:22:28 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (knee) workload won't be limited if he's healthy and returns to the player he was before his knee injury, according to beat writer Adam Teicher.

Fantasy Tip: Charles turns 30 in December, and there will be some concern whether he can return to that elite level. That also means he could come at a slight discount in drafts. Charles remains a solid RB1.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware considered the backup

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 15:14:27 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is viewed as the backup running back behind RB Jamaal Charles, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher. Teicher did say that Ware and RB Charcandrick West would both play if Charles was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Ware and West proved their worth last season after Charles went down. Their fantasy value is limited as long as Charles is healthy, though. Both Ware and West are low-end RB4 to high-end RB5 considerations in the Chiefs' backfield.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will not be rushed

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 16:38:05 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was able to participate in some drills during minicamp, but head coach Andy Reid said the team will not rush Charles back to the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Charles probably will not receive a lot of playing time during preseason because the team wants him to be ready for the regular season. He should be a first-round pick in fantasy drafts if he is healthy because he produces in the running and passing game.

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 12:37:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) might participate in team drills during minicamp nextw eek, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs will probably take it easy with Charles before the regular season starts. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he's still worth RB1 consideration, with added value in PPR leagues.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles won't work until camp

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 22:53:57 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) made an appearance at practice Wednesday, June 1, wearing a jersey and shorts without a helmet. However, he did not practice, and he is not expected to participate in practice until training begins in July, at the earliest.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is making his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in October, and there is no guarantee he'll be back to 100 percent by the start of the regular season. While Adrian Peterson came back and was better than ever after a torn ACL, it's a tough injury to make it back from, especially for a running back who relies on sudden turns and quick cuts. When healthy he is obviously a top-notch fantasy talent, but there is a ton of risk involved with Charles this season.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited in OTAs

Thu, 19 May 2016 10:24:44 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be limited in organized team activities, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is expected to be ready well in advance of the season. It's fair to expect his workload to be tapered with Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware also proven runners. At 29, it's reaching to expect another 1,500-yard rushing season. However, he should remain a steady RB1 with West a low-end RB3 and Ware an RB5 flyer.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has been running

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 10:43:57 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been running but isn't cutting in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. "I'll be ready," Charles said of being back out there for training camp. "I can't wait."

Fantasy Tip: Charles will be 30 this December, and his injury history is extensive at this point. He'll surely be rested more often after Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware were effective in Charles' absence last year. But when healthy, Charles still is one of the more productive backs in the NFL, and he can return to RB1 status, especially in PPR leagues.

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:25:56 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said he probably won't participate in organized team activities, but he should be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs definitely don't want to overwork Charles this offseason, especially coming off a serious knee injury. If Charles can fully recover and avoid suffering any setbacks, he should be drafted as a RB1 again in 2016.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis is a player the Miami Dolphins have expressed interest in. Davis is believed to be on the trade block. The Dolphins also expressed interest in RBs Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, but those talks appeared to go nowhere.

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 06:16:49 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been working out at the team's facility and will be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is 29 and coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The position doesn't have as many slam dunks as it used to, so it's feasible to consider him just under the elite tier.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles not going anywhere

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 10:20:53 -0800

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not be cut, according to general manager John Dorsey. "He will be an important piece of this team moving forward," Dorsey said. Dorsey also said Charles is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a knee injury.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has an injury prone label on his head, but when he's healthy he's arguably one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL. He'll likely slip in fantasy drafts this fall because of another serious injury, but that means he could be had at a bargain as an RB1, especially in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles likely to stay

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 11:07:56 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee), who is apparently ahead in his rehab from a knee injury, is likely to remain with the Chiefs in 2016, according to general manager John Dorsey. "Well, as I look at it right now, Jamaal … I think he may be ahead of schedule in terms of his rehabilitation," Dorsey said. "The guy is an extremely talented player. Love him to death. Love how dirty-tough he is. Yeah, he's a Chief." The Chiefs could save around $5.3 million by releasing Charles.

Fantasy Tip: Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware more than picked up the slack after Charles' injury last year, which would lead some to believe they can do it again without him. But Charles is an elite running back talent and is even more valuable in PPR leagues. However, he's injury prone, which may cause him to slide into the second round in drafts this year.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was hurt and then the team went on average 135.9 yards - fifth in the league - in 11 regular season games with RBs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware. He has a $2 million report-to-training camp bonus due in July, and he could be asked to take a pay cut and/or relinquish that bonus to return while earning it back through incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has been a productive back in this league, but he has had multiple injuries to his anterior cruciate ligament and he is getting up there in age. Fantasy owners should be preparing for a steep decline going forward.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles ahead of schedule?

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 19:15:55 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) may be ahead of schedule as he rehabs from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to general manager John Dorsey.

Fantasy Tip: Charles' rehab is apparently going well, and there is a good chance he is ready for the start of the 2016 season. Despite the injury risk, Charles has too much upside as a runner and a pass-catcher to slip beyond the first couple of rounds of fantasy drafts.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles will be back

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 12:32:29 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be back for the start of the regular season this year, according to general manager John Dorsey. "The guy is an extremely talented player," Dorsey said. "I love him to death, love how dirty tough he is. Yeah, he's a Chief." Charles missed all but five games in 2015 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is one of the all-around best running backs in the league still, but he's had serious issues with staying healthy for a full season. For that reason his draft value will fall a bit, but he's definitely still worthy of RB1 status, especially in point-per-reception leagues.
