Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited Friday

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 17:31:43 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles sat out most of the contact drills during practice Friday, Aug. 7, because the team wants to keep him fresh.

Fantasy Tip: Charles will see a lot of touches this season, so the team likely will limit his work during training camp and the preseason. Charles should be one of the first players selected in drafts this season since he will help in the running and passing game.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles used in passing game

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 17:27:00 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was emphasized in the screen game during practice Saturday, Aug. 1, and in one drill, nine straight passes were thrown to running backs.

Fantasy Tip: Charles finished with just 291 receiving yards last year, which is surprisingly low for a player with so much explosiveness and versatility. It sounds like the Chiefs are making it a point to put the ball in Charles' hands as much as possible, and he should be considered a RB1 in all formats for 2015 with top five upside at the position.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles feeling young again

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 12:01:51 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles said he's feeling healthy, is eating right and doing yoga. "I'm doing everything I am supposed to do to keep my body up at my age. Charles added that he feels like he's 20 or 21 years old again.

Fantasy Tip: A refreshed Jamaal Charles is a dangerous Jamaal Charles. Even a hampered Charles from last year was dangerous. If he can stay healthy and produce the way he's produced the last few seasons, he'll be in the top-five running back conversation again in 2015.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has ranked in the top three in total touchdowns in each of the last two seasons, recording a league-high 19 in 2013 and 14 last year.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has piled up 33 scores in 30 games over the past two seasons. He is a high-end RB1 in any format, and he should be in the conversation for the best back in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles taking week off

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 13:54:58 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will be taking a week off from football now that minicamp is over. Following the hiatus, Charles will begin an intense workout regimen. Charles said he would try to come back early and work with the Chief's strength and conditioning coach to get more in shape and back in the groove.

Fantasy Tip: Charles dealt with his fair share of injuries last year, but still managed to only miss one game. Over the past five seasons in which Charles has played in at least 15 games, he has averaged 1,680.2 total yards and 11 total touchdowns. He's a top-five fantasy running back when healthy.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles plans on playing a while

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 16:08:19 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will turn 29 by the end of the 2015 season, but he said he has no plans on slowing down and wants to play another six years. "(The game) has changed," Charles said. "They've got all kinds of technology now, all kinds of medicine people have come up with to stay healthy."

Fantasy Tip: Charles battled injuries last year, but he still managed more than 1,300 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns. The Chiefs added Jeremy Maclin to help stretch the field a bit this year, and Charles should still produce like a RB1 as the focal point of the ground game.

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 19:47:38 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon has been compared to Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles by multiple teammates because of his size, speed and patience.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles wants team to address OL

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 04:23:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles wants the team to address the offensive line situation in the upcoming NFL Draft. Charles told media "it was challenging last year playing with guys... some got hurt, some got suspended. So it was hard playing. I never knew how crucial it was to my career that I needed linemen."

Fantasy Tip: If you don't have a solid offensive line, it's hard to run the ball. Pure and simple. Charles' production slipped backwards somewhat because the Chiefs' offensive line was not up to snuff. Of course, that was just one reason, as there were injuries, but it's enough to make Charles a low RB1 or an RB2 on most fantasy boards.

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 16:16:49 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle, hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 25. The Chiefs did not practice Thursday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has held in check in Week 16 but did help out in the passing game. Charles should continue to produce in the running and passing game, which makes him a solid No. 1 or No. 2 running back for owners on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 15:20:46 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($5,555) is expected to play against the San Diego Chargers. He's likely to be a big part of their offensive game plan yet again, especially if Dwayne Bowe (shoulder) can't play. Charles recorded 95 yards and a TD on a season-high 22 carries against the Chargers earlier this year. He's a fine FantasyScore play this weekend.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 19, and is probable for Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles fully practices

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 14:33:23 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Charles should be good to go for Week 16 but has faded in recent weeks. He has a less than favorable matchup at the Pittsburgh Steelers and has split time with Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas, making him a tough buy at $7,500 on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles limited Wednesday

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 15:37:37 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($7,500) appears to be in good shape to play in Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he's limping to the finish line, and he shared work with Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas last week. If Charles continues to share more of the workload, it may be tough for him to capitalize on his FantasyScore price.

Fantasy Tip: We'll obviously keep an eye on this situation, as fantasy owners everywhere hold their collective breath. He was bent backwards in a pile of tacklers with his left leg stuck under, similar to how Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett was injured in the game against Michigan. We'll let you know.

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 13:53:43 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 5, and is listed as probable for Week 14.

Chiefs | More touches for Jamaal Charles?

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 09:34:02 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had just 14 touches (10 runs, four catches) in the team's Week 13 loss to the Denver Broncos, and offensive coordinator Doug Pederson realizes that the team needs to put the ball in Charles' hands more often to close out the season. Charles' 35 rushing yards against the Broncos was his lowest total of the year since Week 2 when he was injured. "We as a staff, and me as a coordinator, I have to allow him to touch the football as often as we can," Pederson said. "You look at the stat sheet and look at the targets and the number of touches that guys get, and then you go back and say, 'Oh, I wish I would have done this or I wish I would have done that, or more of this or less of that,' after the game, win or lose."

Fantasy Tip: Expect the Chiefs to feed Charles ($7,500) early and often against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend. The Cardinals have been good at limiting opposing running backs, but if Charles is guaranteed a high volume of touches, he should make his FantasyScore cost worth it.

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 15:47:39 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: You shouldn't be worried about Charles heading into Week 14 against the Arizona Cardinals. At a FantasyScore price of $7,500, though, you may be concerned that the Cards have limited runners to an average of just 12.89 fantasy points this year. Tread carefully.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practices in full

Wed, 12 Nov 2014 19:24:45 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (elbow, shoulder) was able to practice in full Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is dinged up, but the fact he practiced fully Wednesday bodes well for his playing status Sunday. He has a difficult matchup against the fourth-ranked rushing defense, so at $7,400 (or 14.8 percent of the cap) he might be a bit too risky.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (back) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 31, and is probable for Week 9 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($7,400; 14.8% of cap) and the Chiefs face a decent run-stuffing unit in the New York Jets this weekend. It might be a week to avoid using Charles in favor of better options.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practices in full

Thu, 30 Oct 2014 14:15:44 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (back) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is on the injury report this week with a new injury, but he's practiced in full the last two days, so he should be perfectly fine for Week 9 against the New York Jets. The Jets have held their own against rushers this year, so Charles may find it tough to return value on his $7,400 (14.8% of cap) this weekend.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (head) will participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 23, and the team does not plan on adding him to their injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Charles took a big hit in Week 7 but appears to be on track to play in Week 8. Charles costs $7,400 on FantasyScore and is a solid starting option since he is used in the passing and running game.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles showed concussion symptoms

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 11:15:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (concussion) showed no signs of a concussion when he was checked after a helmet-to-helmet hit in Week 7, according to trainer Rick Burkholder. However, Charles said he was never checked, and he said after the game that the hit was no big deal. He changed his tune after the game: "It definitely hurt," Charles said. "A couple plays later, I just (saw) this light buzz around my eyes and I was trying to catch 'em. But I was like, 'Let's get the ball and run again.'" Charles had other concussion symptoms, as well, but didn't think he had a concussion. He was cleared from the concussion protocol Tuesday, Oct. 21, and was cleared to practice Wednesday, Oct. 22, but the team will continue to monitor him.

Fantasy Tip: It appears as though Charles has a very minor concussion, but it doesn't make him any less risky for Week 8 against the St. Louis Rams. Knile Davis ($3,100) and De'Anthony Thomas ($3,000) could be great FantasyScore bargains if Charles is limited or doesn't play at all.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles cleared to practice

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 10:41:28 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (concussion) was cleared to practice Wednesday, Oct. 22, but the team will continue to monitor him throughout the week.

Fantasy Tip: Concussions are serious business, making it no sure thing that Charles will be able to play in Week 8 against the St. Louis Rams. If he can't play, Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas will see big increases in workload. Consider Charles ($7,400; 14.8% of cap) is a dicey play at FantasyScore until we know more.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has averaged more than five yards per carry in each of the past two games, and offensive line coach Doug Pederson said improved play from the offensive line has helped boost the rushing attack.

Chiefs | Andy Reid regrets play-calling decisions

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 09:36:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles didn't touch the ball on any of the team's final 10 plays of their Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and head coach Andy Reid regrets his play-calling decisions down the stretch. The Chiefs failed to convert on a third and shirt early in the fourth quarter, electing to pass instead of run with Charles.

Fantasy Tip: Charles had 15 rushes for 80 yards but only one catch in the loss. Reid will have plenty of time to think about getting Charles more involved following the team's Week 6 bye. Expect Charles to see plenty of action in Week 7.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles received a limited amount of touches in Week 5, because the offense only ran 15 plays in the second half of the game, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ran the ball 15 times and caught one pass during the game. Charles should continue to be in starting lineups each week despite his limited workload in Week 5.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Charles was a nice surprise to his fantasy owners in his return in Week 4. He had a heavy workload, scored three times and looked healthy. However, against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, Charles is set up to disappoint, especially at his FantasyScore price ($7,600; 15.2% of cap). Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) had a strong first half in Week 4 against the New England Patriots. At halftime, he has 10 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown, while also added one catch for five yards and a score.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has not shown any ill-effects of his ankle injury. The carries have been split with Charles getting 10 rushes, and Knile Davis seeing five runs. If you're a fantasy owner of Charles, you have to like what you have seen through the first 30 minutes.

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:52:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) is active for the Week 4 game against the New England Patriots Monday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain if Charles will be limited in any way, but the way Knile Davis filled in last week in Miami, the team can certainly hold him back and not lose much when Davis is on the field.

Sat, 27 Sep 2014 14:10:02 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 4. He was limited in practice again Saturday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Charles ($8,300; 16.6% of your cap) carries a bit of risk, but he's usually worth the investment. Knile Davis ($7,700; 15.4%) is a player to avoid on FantasyScore this week.

Fantasy Tip: Charles will likely be questionable for Monday night against the Patriots, but it looks like he has a much better chance of playing than he did last week. If he plays, though, we expect a good amount of sharing in the backfield between him and Knile Davis. At $8,300 (16.6% of cap), Charles is a big risk at FantasyScore.
