Updating a previous item, ESPN.com reports Seattle Mariners OF Raul Ibanez and Philadelphia Phillies SP Jamie Moyer, who was a longtime member of the Mariners, are disputing a claim by former Mariners OF Shane Monahan that steroids and amphetamines were present in the team's clubhouse in 1998 and 1999. "I can tell you that I was there for 10 years and I never saw anyone take steroids," said Moyer. Ibanez had similar comments about steroids: "I've never had anyone come to me in a major league clubhouse and offer me any."

Mike Fish, of ESPN.com, reports that former Seattle Mariners OF Shane Monahan used anabolic steroids and amphetamines when he played for the team during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. He said he got them from "guys" who regularly hung around the clubhouse, but could not remember their names. Monahan began using steroids because he believed they were rampant throughout the clubhouse and the game, and was looking for a way to level the playing field. Even though he was not named in the Mitchell Report, Monahan decided to go public with his confession to keep children from making the same mistake. "I'm not a superstar," he said. "Nobody remembers who I am. But you know what? I don't want kids from college or kids from high school going through what I had to go through. I certainly don't want my son, 20 years from now, having to be faced with that decision so he could play professional sports."
