Padres | Derek Norris, Alexei Ramirez out

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:16:58 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris and SS Alexei Ramirez are not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, July 20. C Christian Bethancourt is catching and hitting seventh, while 2B Alexi Amarista is at the 6 and is batting eighth against Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt has surprising pop with five home runs and 14 RBI as SD's backup catcher in 105 at-bats, but he's still more of a low-end sleeper pick to save salary cap space in DFS. Amarista barely moves the needle in even the deepest of fantasy leagues and is a long shot to make noise hitting low in the batting order.

Padres | Alexei Ramirez sits Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 14:39:28 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez is not in the lineup Tuesday, July 19, against St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez. SS Alexi Amarista will hit eighth against Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a normal off night for Ramirez, so go ahead and scratch him from your DFS or daily rosters. Amarista doesn't see enough action to merit any fantasy value.

Padres | Three San Diego regulars resting

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:57:16 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay, C Derek Norris and SS Alexei Ramirez are not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 16. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and hitting leadoff, C Christian Bethancourt is catching and batting seventh and 2B Alexi Amarista is at the 6 and is hitting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Tanner Roark.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has the favorable lineup spot setting the table, but he's a light hitter and hasn't translated his speed to much success on the base paths (five steals in eight attempts). He's still more of a low-end outfield pick as a deep sleeper. Bethancourt has some power but remains inconsistent offensively, and Amarista carries very little fantasy allure because of limited power and speed.

Padres | Wil Myers hits walk-off single

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 22:19:49 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Wil Myers drove in SS Alexei Ramirez with a base hit in the ninth inning to give the Padres a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, June 7. Myers went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.

Fantasy Tip: Myers continued his recent hot streak, posting his fourth consecutive multi-hit game and seventh in nine games. Over that stretch, Myers is 17-for-38 (.447) with 3 HRs, 9 RBI and 9 runs scored to raise his average from .259 to .290 on the year. He's suddenly helping out in all five major fantasy categories and is worth owning in all leagues.

Padres | Alexei Ramirez drives in five

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 23:27:08 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has now hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 11-for-30 (.367) with three home runs, eight RBI and five runs scored in that time. On the downside, he hasn't stolen a base since May 6. If he's not running, Ramirez's fantasy appeal is limited to NL-only setups.

Padres | Wil Myers out of lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:56:46 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Wil Myers is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 13. 1B Brett Wallace is playing first base and is hitting cleanup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra. Also, SS Alexei Ramirez moves up into the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace's production has improved lately while playing every day (two home runs, five RBI this month), but he's still only hitting .226 this month. The matchup tonight isn't overwhelming, so Wallace has a decent shot to return value in daily formats again. Ramirez gains minimal value in daily games, too, but he has almost no power to speak of.

Padres | Alexei Ramirez returns for nightcap

Wed, 11 May 2016 15:11:10 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Wednesday, May 11. Ramirez is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has no home runs on the year and has limited upside in all fantasy formats, especially coming off a hammy cramp last night in cold weather. To add to it, he's hitting just .154 with no homers or RBI against Lackey in his career in 15 plate appearances. Look elsewhere.

Padres | Three Padres sit Game 1

Wed, 11 May 2016 08:09:08 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez (hamstring), OF Jon Jay and OF Melvin Upton Jr. are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, in the first game of a doubleheader. OF Travis Jankowski is leading off, OF Alex Dickerson is hitting sixth and SS Adam Rosales is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has a homer and four RBI in six at-bats this season, and he's worth a basement flyer against Kyle Hendricks. Jankowski and Rosales aren't worth consideration.
