Mariners | May talk with White Sox about trades

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 23:46:04 -0700

Look for the Seattle Mariners to approach the Chicago White Sox about trades before the deadline. OFs Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo and SS Alexei Ramirez may be of interest to the Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Why the Mariners would want to muddy an already crowded outfield situation is a good question, but the team would make the postseason if the season ended today. That is a good reason to keep an eye on potential destinations for two of these three. Adam Dunn is the odd man out, as a low average and all-or-nothing approach at the plate make him a risky fantasy value.

White Sox | Alexei Ramirez succeeding with new approach

Wed, 30 Apr 2014 14:05:39 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez has a team-record 17 straight games with a hit to start the 2014 season, and manager Robin Ventura believes Ramirez's new approach at the plate will have him hitting well all season long. "Right now, I don't think he really has a thought of what he's trying to do. He's just really trying to put it on the barrel, I think he's balanced. He's just in a better position to hit this year than he was at any point last year." In the past, as Ventura mentioned, Ramirez's was always too focused on pulling the ball.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has always made solid contact at the plate, but a new approach may make him relative with the stick all season long. Add in 20-homer power and speed, and you have yourself a very valuable fantasy baseball shortstop.

White Sox | Alexei Ramirez has refined approach at the plate

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 07:27:25 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez predominately struggled in April until he hit .281 in April last year. His average never dipped below .271 for any other month in 2013, which attributes his rise in consistency. He is hitting .420 and riding a 13-game hitting streak this month. Ramirez's usage of the whole field has been a crucial adjustment. "Pitchers are trying to pitch, and if I hit them good on one side, they are looking for another," Ramirez said through translator and White Sox manager of cultural development Lino Diaz. "So I've been lucky to be able to pretty much hit the ball where it's pitched. If I'm getting hits in one area, then they are throwing to other areas. I've been waiting for (the pitcher) in that area, too."

White Sox | Manager: Off-field stuff has affected Alexei Ramirez

Wed, 14 Aug 2013 11:47:23 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez has had a poor 2013 season in the field, but off-the-field issues have likely contributed to that poor performance, according to manager Robin Ventura. Ramirez committed three errors on Tuesday, Aug. 13, giving him 20, which matches a career high for a campaign. In spring training, Ramirez left the team because of the death of his father-in-law. Ventura believes that Ramirez's ability hasn't diminished, because the shortstop has still made some great plays. His Ultimate Zone Rating, a defensive metric, is 5.5, which is eighth among regular shortstops, according to Fangraphs.com. He leads the club with 138 hits and is second on it with 25 stolen bases.

Fantasy Tip: The Cuban Missile has had a solid fantasy season because of the BA and steals, so fantasy owners aren't much concerned about the defensive miscues. Especially if his skipper is willing to defend him. This isn't the first time that Ramirez has been bothered by things away from the clubhouse. It's been tough at times in the States for the Cuban transplant, who's always been reportedly close to his family.
