Michael Marot, of the Associated Press, reports Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy indicated the team could re-sign free agent QB Shaun King (Colts) after the conclusion of Week 1. "With vested veterans, like Shaun, it becomes a decision about opening day," Dungy said. "We think Jim (QB Jim Sorgi) is ready. If it's shown otherwise, we can make a move and bring Shaun back if he's not signed with someone else." Dungy was referring to a clause in the NFL's collective bargaining agreement that guarantees salaries for vested veterans if they make the active roster during the first week. If they are active during the rest of the season, the salary is prorated.

T. Scott Boatright, of The News-Star, recently conducted an interview with Indianapolis Colts backup QB Shaun King. King will compete with QB Jim Sorgi to become the primary backup for starting QB Peyton Manning. King was asked the team's feeling heading into 2006 and he replied: "We're excited about the upcoming season and feel we have some big things in front us. It won't be easy, especially without RB Edgerrin James, but we have some other good running backs and I expect the team to push for the Super Bowl the way it has the past couple of years. Tony Dungy is a great coach. I've already played under him when I first came to Tampa Bay, so I'm very excited about rejoining him with the Colts." King is hoping his career will be remembered by something that has not even happened yet. I've already had a good career and played on a team that won the Super Bowl, but I'm only 29 and feel the best of my career is still ahead of me. I'm happy with my position with the Colts right now, but I do hope to eventually get a chance to start and help a team win a championship. That's what being in the NFL is all about.
